GEIL GOES TO HELL-Frankie doesn't go to Hollywood

Unfortunate things can occur when testing a new product. Curiosity killed the ram!
    bought at newegg
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820144062

I was excited to check this Ram ic ...

    SPEC sticker

So excited I didn't heat up the the ram with a hairdryer before removing the spreaders. Instead I managed to rip all the ic's off one side of the pcb.

Anyone know about these? its not d9 and it responds to high voltage

I took the other stick and tested in a p5b dlx

    LOL!

    PWNED

jesus...did you accidentally pull ALL? or just pull one off then think... it and pull off all the rest?:P

That must have been a real "oh bugger" moment. Then you feel that sinking feeling in your heart.

Careful, this type of comments can get you banned...

Edit: I wonder if the "S" is for Samsung.

Dot in the corner means Hynix right? Could be proMOS.

If you have a cooling question or concern feel free to contact me.

I'd say proMOS, that sticker looks like it could almost say MOS.

SpecTech? Never heard of them. But man, why'd you rip the heatspreader off? I'm sure someone knew the ICs around XS.

The latest batches of GeIL PC6400 Ultra are supposed to use Elpidia or PowerChip ICs

    Bummer about the loss btw

Spectec is a offshoot of Micron who use parts that do not meet Micron spec and brand them under their own, just like Aneon and Infineon
    NZXT Tempest | Corsair 1000W
    Creative X-FI Titanium Fatal1ty Pro
    Intel i7 2500K Corsair H100
    PNY GTX 470 SLi (700 / 1400 / 1731 / 950mv)

    Kingston HyperX PC3-10700 (4x4096MB)(9-9-9-28 @ 1600mhz @ 1.5v)

ah, ok. I knew they were micron-based but I couldnt prove it. I had no idea what IC it was.

Those GEIL's use the same Levin PCB as crucial, etc.

Dont feel bad OP, I did the EXACT same thing with these things. I've pulled off a LOT of heat spreaders, but these you do NOT want to mess with. The balls are really small and fall off REALLY easily.... plus the tape on these units seems to be extra sticky.

I agree though, GEIL can suck it. This ram sucks (even when mine worked).

Anyway, stay away from this crap. Oddly enough i have the exact same chips (same week, etc) you should hit up Rol-Co(the guy i sold my stick to) and combine my set w/ your set to have a functional 2*1GB kit again, lol.

The "Assembled in the US of A" would not help the quality

For that price I would have bought two sets

The old GEIL PC6400 Ultra used to be micron based.
I've got a set of the new ones and in early testing they do 12 hour memtest stable 469Mhz 4-4-4-13-2T @2.12v. Not bad for only AUD$320, it certainly doesn't suck .

They are supposed to use Elpidia and PowerChip now.
