OC with Q6600 ES quad & EVGA 680 SLI

I have my cousins system here and I'm a bit stumped

OK first off, we cannot get the CPU past 2.8Ghz. No matter how much voltage we give the CPU, RAM or board. Now we know his CPU is good for much higher clocks. The CPU & RAM were previously run at 3.6Ghz on a MSI 975X board with no problems with 1.4v CPU and 2.3v RAM 4-4-4-4 timings.

    System specs...

    Q6600 ES quad
    8800GTX SLI
    EVGA 680i SLI
    2x1GB PC 4300 G.Skill micron D9DCN modules
    Enermax Galaxy 1000w PSU

Now, we can get the board to post at 3.2Ghz but it fails to load windows at anything higher than 2.8Ghz. No matter how much voltage we give the CPU or RAM or mobo, it just doesn't seem to help. We've disabled the spread spectrum settings, as well as speedstep. Rig is water cooled, temps are 35C load and 23C idle.

So does anyone have any expiereince OCing on this board with a quad core that may be able to give a few suggestions? Surely I must be missing something. And yes, we updated to the latest bios as well.

680i has problems clocking quad. 2.8 ghz was as high as I could get as well. You need to use the p5b with the 680i.

The P5B is not a SLI board. And we have 2 8800GTX's

I've disabled all that they are saying to disable in that guide too. I've only seen QX6700 with an unlocked multi clock on this board. I believe that even FUGGER has some issues with the board with his quad and trying to run anything higher than a 300-310Mhz FSB.

yeah the only chance you have is with an unlocked multiplier on 680i.

EVGA tech support has contacted me and says that there is a bios update coming at the end of next week, but would not comment on weather or not the update will resolve the FSB limitation with kentsfield CPUs.

I put an E6400 in the board just to expierement, and it had no problem running at 450mhz FSB 1:1 with my memory. So something is clearly conflicting in the bios it would seem.

I'm open to any and all suggestion folks.

Current boards do not have this implementation, but newer boards should be tuned with a little more GTL Ref Voltage with Kentsfields. Perhaps we can expect a Revision 2 of 680i SLI Motherboards...
Seems DFI RD600 already has the GTL Ref Voltage implemented in Shamino's bios screen

Dammit, I hope this can be resolved with a bios update rather than a revision 2 board....wonder if EVGA's "step up" works for mobos?......

disable 2 and 4 and you will get the same results. I was able to hit 3.4 with just having the other 2 cores left. It acts as a really expensive conroe then.

Interesting. It will let me boot to windows fine at 3.2Ghz like this, but no further. I really hope there is a bios revision coming that can fix this.

I'm able to OC but I have a stepping B0, which is multiplier unlocked. I've been stable at 11x266 for 2934 and 11x300 for 3300.

I have the same problem both with a B1 6700, and a B3 6600. eVGA is completely ignoring my thread in their forum.
