Thank you tictac.
Hi every gurus here,
I've found that with this board, I need 1.78 vmch to keep my system stable, double primed, at 400fsb x 9, at Vcore of 1.53v. Also 2.45vdimm 1:1 at 3 3 3 4.
Please advise if it is safe to keep this as a 24/7 settings for use. My temps ok but realised that the PWM3 in uguru is higher than the rest at 46 degrees. What's PWM3?
Thank you in advance, please help..............
Whats a safe vmch with his board anyhow with decent case cooling?
Someone stated in this thread that 2.0v set in the BIOS was actually 1.89v real on this board. My board doesn't get warm @ up to the highest setting so I am not concerned. If you want to be safe don't run your board @ your max OC 24/7. You hardly need 3.6-4.0GHz for web browsing and dinking around. Folks that are worried should go with 3.2GHz. All the Core 2 Duo chips I have owned so far have been able to do that with voltages @ stock levels. This chip will actually do 3.6Ghz on 1.4v, which is nice. It needs 1.52v for 3.8GHz and a full 1.65v for 3.9-4.0GHz.Originally Posted by NO1B4ME
I have all the power management features on so my rig idles @ a 6x multi with reduced voltage. BTW you can leave all of that on in the BIOS and enable or disable it in windows by changing power management to "minimal" for on and to "always on" for off.

i'm also trying hard (since i'm a very big noob) to get this thing stable...Originally Posted by Iceflight

i have the board in inverted atx, which is not good and only have a fan pointing and the mems and Nb.
also... do your boards produce any kind of noise when in full load? is seems like high-voltage lines, but without the sparks ...
sorry for the long post...

I've 9 fans in my case, so I probably couldn't hear anything. But seems so far to me that this board needs more vmch to get it stable. Either that or the actual voltage is really much lower...Originally Posted by Patuga

Again, this board overvolts cpu setting in bios, & undervolts mch. Each is different I believe but the highest actual voltage on mch I've seen after setting 2.0v is 1.93v. From what I understand of the chipset, 1.85v mch is only safe for everyday use with aftermarket or enchanced cooling. I don't like that I need 1.75v mch set in bios to get 400FSB stable, but remember thats not actual. I've not measured what I get actual @ 1.75v but I assume its below 1.7v and around 1.62-1.65v for most of us. I know alot of people like this board, and it may be a winner with future bios updates. For me the board runs hotter on both the cpu & chipset, & the audio will not suit my needs. I just bought a new revision p5w DH for a mere $234 shipped I paid $238 shipped for the abit & I personally think the P5W is a better buy.

i think i got it...
got up to 1.8vmch and it did 1H of orthos @ 390
now testing @ 400 with 4-4-4-12, 2.2vdimm (2.25 Ov)
haven't looked at the Mch voltage to see how accurate it is... will do that in half an hour... tks for the input... i'm getting somewhere here...
EDIT: Test Failed After 40 minutes...
will try with 2.4Vdimm now....

No, it seems Asus is perfecting every board except the P5W DH. The P5B doesn't do it either now that you have full control over tref etc in bios. I'm still hopeful that its coming. At least my sources say its on the way. I've ordererd a few different chipset & mosfet coolers. I'm gonna remove the heatpipe from the abit and see what happens. Adding as5 and some fans got me up to 440 FSB 1mb pi stable uing the 9 multiplier. I want 450 using 8 and 445 using 9. My current 1.85v mch P5W will do this now with no mods. Hoping the one I orderd today will to, as well as this abit.Originally Posted by Sparx

That sucks
I was going to get a pb5 until I let myself get talked into the Pw5 which I rma'd and replaced with the abit aw9d max.
I am at 383 x 9 and moving up, just want 3.5 stable and I will be happy.
I am using 3d03 and 3d05 back to back to test stability. I quit using Prime95 on my last AMD build seemed to cause issues for several.
I need to find the "GO" program and figure out how to run it on both cores simultaneously.

The GO program you're refering to is called Stress Prime 2004. Instead of running two different instances for you dual core us the orthos version. It will stress both cores by default. Also run large FTTS.Originally Posted by Sparx

I want to run this on my AW9D MAX, I found some today and I also see it's back in stock everywhere in Dec. I have not seen any other timing's like it.
I'm trying to understand low latency vs high bandwidth for OCing as well as games. Anyone have this and is 498.00 just way to much cash and is it worth the expense?

on a bit of a sidenote to the norm, I am testing this board at present and have found that I can boot and run Superpi upto 420+ fsb. I have used Team Group 667mhz 3-3-3-8 kit and also Crucial Ballistix 3-3-3-12 pc5300 2gb kit. Normally when I test I run super pi, 3d marks and dual orthos for around 8 hours to get a good feel of the boards overall stable point for everyday use (obviously we all have different criteria in this department). Using an E6600 stepping 5 b1 es. This cpu can pass 11hours of stress Orthos on the P5WDG2 PRO at 427fsb.
I am finding that running Orthos at anything over 400fsb on the Abit fails with an hour regardless of any settings in bios (from spd to manual, vcore, vdimm etc). Even setting memset secondry timings way loose does not help. The same hardware can run Orthos at 427fsb for 11 hours on the P5WDG2 Pro, granted we can't really compare cross platform like this, though if the problem exists between Orthos and COnroe it should have been surfacing there too....
I was just wondering if a few of you guys would be kind enough to run Orthos (Blend test stress cpu/ram) for me at a variety of fsb's and see what results you get with different ram. I can then at least forwards some more info to ABit if possible about widening ram compatibility if possible.
I know this is XS and most people have different criteria to mine, I'm just asking a few experienced overclockers to come forwards and see what results they get at a point where I'm finding a hitch...
I'm not detracting from the benching ability of this board as it is great, 440fsb out of the box on the 9x multi is not bad...
thanks in advance for any help...
regards
Raja

I am struggling to get 4ghz stable with my E6700 w/ this Abit Max board no matter what settings and I had tried everything. Orthos always error out after 1hr like you. With the same setup using P5W was 4ghz Orthos and Dual Prime95 stable. I have a gut feeling that there is something wrong with Ram settings on this board.
thanks for confirming this for me buddy, anything over the 400fsb mark seems to bomb with Orthos stress test after 1 hour...
Let's see if other users can confirm this too.....

I havent run prime for a while. I was able to run 28 hours without error at 425fsb when i first got the board. But anything higher than that my computer would freeze 8 seconds into orthos on any setting above 425. my vmch is maxed and my vdimm is also maxed, vcore is almost maxed=) and still freezes. I know its a mobo problem because with my ds3 i was able to run 438 fsb 24 hour prime stable. I am waiting for a bios to hopfully fix the problem. I am also very disappointed in the board. Only thing better than the d3s is that i can use low timings with this board.Originally Posted by raju

sad to report froze in 18 minutes @425x9 with a E6600.
yep just as I suspected, you'll find it'll keep doing the same all the way down to under 400 depending on what ram you use....
THe bios needs work, as the Asus Pro's can run Orthos over 420fsb with far lower vcore no problems...
