here are the bolts, nuts and insulating washer that i used to secure the heatsinks...the push pins are really inadequate.

Excellent info Ace a rue, may have to give this a try myself.
If I can buy all the bits I need.
i used AS Ceramique on the PWM mosfets and then MX2 paste on the NB & SB chipsets.
my parts came from home depot.

my recoomendations are in red next to yours....these are suggestions; maybe something might click for you.
i found 200 difference between CPU Skew and MCH Skew worked a whole lot better...i used 100/300, 200/400 and 300/500 with success.
before moving any other settings, try higher ram settings first because yours look to tight for high FSB that you have now.

One more question im currently at 2.8GHz (400X7) i am aiming for a high FSB, low multiplier but when i change the FSB to 432 for 2.9GHZ my DRAM frequency goes up really high (862) i dont think my ram could take that much.
Any ideas on what i need to change (im not good when it comes to overclocking ram/timings/dividers) so that my DRAM Frequency does not increase, (other then changing the multiplier) would it be the static tREAD (currently at auto) i know its the divider but i dont know how to change it, i read that 3:5 is good for 400FSB and up.
Sauron_Vie, what PLL voltage You are running?
Ace-a-Rue, have You any info about newer BIOS coming?
One thing that frustrates me is that voltage control options have too big steps. For example PLL 1,5; 1,6 etc...

this board and all other intel chipset boards raise the DDR mhz when you raise the FSB mhz...right now, you are in a 1-to-1 memory ratio which is the safest setting while trying to find the highest overclock.
don't forget that the memory is working twice the speed of your FSB in Dual Channel mode.

looks as if the this bolt-mod and using Ceramique and MX2 thermal paste has improved stability on this board and my QX9650.
still experimenting with memory settings...they seem to be very critical as you approach the maximum FSB, at least for a QX9650; probably due to the dual L2 cache on this puppy!
currently at 490 FSB (at 8x), which is a hard FSB to hold for a QX9650...i am doing Prime 95 right now to make sure it is fairly stable before going to 500 FSB...it took some tweaking on the memory to get me there...i am about 30 minutes into Prime...before, i would freeze the puter after 1 minute of Prime 95.
one thing i've noticed is the heat coming off from the PWM area is very warm...i measured the temp right at a capacitor under the upper corner of the PWM heatsink; it read 75C..very toasty!
i have to admit that i was about to give up on this board for a high end Quad...it took some patience to get me where i am now...fairly easy for a dual core to overclock and maybe the low end yorkie quads, but this Extreme Quad has been a rascal to conqueror on this board...it showed promise unlike other boards where there was absolutely no chance to get above 475 to 480 FSB, unless you had Phase cooling.

@Ace: many thks for the infos, will try your settings today. if i can pass the 550fsb i will let u know. btw great clock with the qx.. maybe i will try mine also on this board.
@ceemic: i tried with 1,5 and 1,6V, but i think i will go now with 1,6v to pass the 550fsb wall.

thanks SV....been working hard at understanding this board, at least for the quad...the IP35 Pro board had a very similar problem with the heatpipe system; woefully inadequate TIM material to interface the chipsets and PWM mosfets...once i did the mod on the heatpipe system for that board, everything settled down with stability...enough heat can make a system sort of unstable especially when you are taxing the system with benches and prime.

Ace-a-Rue, some more questions to You.
What mean exactly these settings and what do You recommend for 24/7 and for "max" OC.
Hardware Prefetcher
Adjacent Cache Line Prefetch
Execute-Disable Bit Capability
FSB Compensation FineTune
Thanks!

Anyone running trifire or crossfire 4870/3870's on this board?
I'm looking to tri-fire some ati's. My dfi x38 just isn't cutting it. They got a bios out for the dual gpu's. For some reason I was getting better scores with just the one card..?

max OC is going to depend on your limits with voltages and memory settings.
these are new to me...i presume if you disable them, they will sort of neuter your cpu....my best guess!Hardware Prefetcher
Adjacent Cache Line Prefetch
this one i would leave enable unless you want to bench...what this does is reserve a certain section of memory that no program, including viruses, can occupy...it is a safety thing for the user.Execute-Disable Bit Capability
i am thinking this is like the old "Spread Spectrum"...it is not conducive for overclocking so leave it disabled.FSB Compensation FineTune

looks like 490 FSB is it for my QX9650..that is about 15 Mhz better on the FSB when compared to other boards...in that regard this board is better...i presume, if Biostar can tweak this bios to be in more harmony with the Extreme cpu's, 500 FSB would be a workable FSB for 9650's.
