I recently upgraded my motherboard and CPU from my phenom II X4 945 to an IvyBridge based system. Now either my system hard locks and loses display, or shuts down, or just spits out the following blue screen:

    Problem signature:
    Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
    OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1
    Locale ID: 1033

    Additional information about the problem:
    BCCode: 116

    OS Version: 6_1_7601
    Service Pack: 1_0

I even re-installed windows for the new system, I also have tried 12.3 drivers and 12.4 drivers. If I disable CFX then I can run anything 3d related, otherwise the above problems.

    i5 3570k (at stock)
    AsRock Z77 Extreme 4 (using latest drivers/bios)

    Anybody have any ideas?

Also, the system appears to be stable as I left it overnight folding and as previously said, I can bench without a problem with CFX disabled. Currently using latest official 12.4 drivers.

If your problem is only when CF is enabled I would lean toward there being a problem with the latest Catalyst drivers or a issue with the VGA BIOS. If the problem appears to be the latter the only solution would be to contact Sapphire about it to see if they can issue you a new vBIOS to flash to the cards.

Well this exact setup worked with my previous system parts, the only thing which was swapped out was the motherboard and CPU (asrock z77 extreme 4 and i5 3570k). So would this be a compatibility issue with the sapphire cards bios conflicting with this board?

    Edit:

I know the cards are good since they were working fine in CFX on my AMD rig. Could also be a faulty secondary PCI-E port too I guess.

I tried changing the PCI-E from Auto to Gen 1 (i think it was Gen 1, or Gen something) didn't do anything.

Edit: I verified everything was properly seated and checked all the power connectors, also tried a second CF bridge. Sometimes even GPU-Z will hang the system and BSOD it.

Not sure what is going on, possible conflict with this motherboard/chipset and cfx with these 7870 cfx cards or maybe some setting in the BIOS that I need to change.

If you are using the latest UEFI and have tried setting the PCIE slots to Gen2, I'll have to pass it on to my contacts for them to look at as I only have 2x HD4830s.

I have the latest 1.30 bios from here:

    http://www.asrock.com/mb/download.us...xtreme4&o=BIOS

Not sure what you mean by the latest UEFI. I've changed the PCI-E setting in the BIOS from AUTO to Gen 0 (I don't believe I have Gen 1, it only has 2 options: Auto and Gen #)

I also tried installing each of them on their own in both slots and they both run fine. Me thinks it's some sort of issue with this brand spanking new Z77 chipset based motherboard.

    I'm dumbounded.

UEFI is the BIOS effectively, the difference: Mainboards now use whats known as a Unified Extensible Firmware Interface instead of the legacy Basic Input Output System

I'm using the fancy new GUI version if that's what you mean. I even went as far as changing my DIMM slots from 1 3 to 2 4 but no dice. If you could forward it and see if maybe a new BIOS can be released or something would be much appreciated.

For now I will use 1 card, if this isn't resolved I guess I'll end up selling one of my 7870 OC cards.

I just ordered the xtreme4 and a 3570k hoping to overclock to around 4.5 Ghz with a H100. Do you think the heatsinks on the board are going to hold me back/cause problems?

I'm already at 4.4ghz with a TRUE Black and a single 120mm fan, so I don't see that being a problem. What may hold you back would be a terrible overclocking chip, but the average I'd imagine would be easy 4.4ghz on air and that wouldn't have much to do with the heatsinks on the board.

I simply added +0.005v and am at 1.208v at load and so far seeing temps of 66C max while folding for over 12 hours with around 20C ambient temps.

What I need now is to find out what is causing my previously working CFX setup with my 7870's to not work now with this board. (they were working perfectly fine with my AMD system which had the exact same components except for the motherboard and cpu.)

There has been a revelation, it appears to be something software based with DirectX being the main issue, I'll copy and paste my findings from another forum:

Thanks for the suggestions and assistance. I tried what you suggested and instant BSOD when trying to run 3dmark 11, also gpu-z just hangs and crashes with a popup.

Now as you hinted, it appears to be something DirectX as I just ran the MSI Kombuster app that comes with the latest MSI Afterburner and it renders in OpenGL and it completed without a problem. Also the game Rage worked for me, and it uses OpenGL. MSI Kombuster even spit out this score for me:

SCORE: 27126 points, Avg FPS: 452 (60000 ms)

Now what else can I test. I can upload the new crash dump or do you want me to try a few more apps. I have 3dmark vantage installed as well as Unigine Heaven 3.0

Edit: confirmed, just did a full run of Heaven 3.0 but in OpenGL mode and it completed (albeit choppy and slow since it doesn't have an optimized AP for the OpenGL version of Heaven) and both cards were being stressed properly.
Edit: Ok, more info. I was able to complete runs in Heaven 3.0 in OpenGL mode, DX9 mode and DX10 mode. DX11 BSOD's. Also tried 3dmark Vantage which is DX10 I believe and it also BSOD. Here are the 3 BSOD's from 3dmark 11, Heaven 3.0 DX11, and 3dmark Vantage.

So it's some problem with maybe cfx optimizations or something with dx11 or I don't know.

My xtreme4 only had a divider to 2133 when I had a 2500k installed. After swapping it out for a 3570k, memory divider is now going up to 2800. This was on UEFI 1.3

thanks, thats what I was wanting to know. I did back the bios and had same 2133 limit, so thought maybe it was just for the ivy chips getting higher dividers.

    Memory Recommendations?

    I ordered my Extreme6 board.

I am also ordering an IB 3770 chip and SSD drive.
I have a bunch of Amazon credit so im going to spring for a Corsair H100 as well since I have always done Air cooling towers before and figured I would try one of these.

Video Card is another conversation as I dont know what the best bang for the buck is. I wanted to wait for a 660 or 670 but looks like that might be delayed until Q3.

One thing I just cant make my mind up on is memory.

    GSkill Sniper 1.25v - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231461
Is the lower voltage one better than the 1.35v?

    Corsair Vengeance - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820233252
Was going to split this with a buddy who is also buying the same MB/Proc.

My usecase is going to an average gamer, and I want do do some overclocking probably to 4.5 range. Just want to be stable and not push it to max.

    Thoughts?

I'd personally go with 1.5V ram, just for compatibility/stability reasons. Also, I wouldn't worry to much about the speed, there is very little gain with SB with the increased memory speed. IVB may prove different (I haven't seen too many reviews, so I'm not sure), but I dare say running at 2133 compared to 1600 or even 1333 on SB or IVB will net you less than 2% performance increase in benchmarks, even less with real world stuff. I actually only ever upgraded to 2133 in my SB system because I was folding, and it gave a bit of a PPD increase.

Update to my issue, I got an email support response from Asrock which was nice and they suggested a reinstall of Windows on a different drive to test. Well I went ahead and just reinstalled on my SSD from a fresh format and so far so good. Perhaps it was a software glitch after all with my previous install. The weird thing is that even after the reinstall of Windows, I still had GPU-Z lock up my computer and I had to reboot, not sure why GPU-Z causes problems from time to time now. I haven't gotten any BSOD's though from gaming or 3d benching.

Would $89 be considered a good price for a new one? I'm making the jump (finally) to SB (IB just seems like too much work to tame the temps) in a couple days and I'm trying to decide on the perfect board for me since I just don't upgrade too often these days.

    Did you mean +0.05v??

I am currently at 4.4ghz on a 3570k with offset at 0.04v giving me just under 1.2v on a H100 but reaching 72C under IBT. I have the fan setting on low but this temp seems very high. Tried reseating the heatsink but no joy.

4.4ghz is fine but i wish my temps were a bit better, would be nice to push it further if i need it in the future.
