8800gt Vs 9600gt - Overclock - 3DMark06 Results

I just wanted to share my OC results for both 8800 gt and 9600 gt systems that I have. I built the 9600gt system for my friend, and wanted to compare my 8800gt system with the new 9600gt System. Both machines are of Similar configuration except for the GPU. Here are the results:

System Profile:
Q6600 at 3.4ghz
P5K Deluxe Mobo


8800gt System (Quad-Fusion)
3DMark06: 14541
XFX 8800gt
Stock: 640/1600/900
Max Stable OC: 730/1825/1050
Accelero S1 Rev.2 w/ 120mm fan
Temp>> Idle:38c Load: 47c






9600gt System (Magnus-Machine)
3DMark06: 13312

XFX 9600gt
Stock: 650/1600/900
Max Stable OC: 821/2105/1050
Thermalright HR-03 GT w/ 92mm Fan
Temp>> Idle:33c Load: 46c






8800gt System (Quad-Fusion) 3DMark06: 14541





9600gt System (Magnus-Machine) 3DMark06: 13312




Only Configuration Differences between the two systems were:
8800gt powered by Rosewill Xtreme 750w, CPU cooled by Zalman 9700NT, Antec 900 Case
9600gt powered by PC Power & Cooling Silencer 610W, CPU cooled by Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme with Scythe 110cfm fan, Raidmax Smilodon Case

One has 112SP(8800) and another 64SP(9600) I guess it's obvious which one would win,and even so the difference is short since the 8800GT has almost the double of the Stream Processors

that's only 3dmark, you can't play 3dmark

games offer better representations of what the card's usefullness is because you can't play 3dmark etc (well at least I can't)

Yup.. u are right.. I just use 3DMark for stability test...
Actual games are played after you have a stable overclock...
I don't think there is a game out there that will unleash the true potential of Quad Core/8800gt combination.. "Don't tell about no Crysis now"

Try TF2 at max settings (1920x1080 and up) lol..

LOL...... playing 3DMark takes skill. I play that game all the time. It's my favorite. Haven't played one of those other games in months.

There's 140 cpu points diference in favour of your system, maybe you have better tuned RAMs, since cloks are the same with same board and cpu.

Could you bench with more juice on the Quads to see how the results split, I think 9600 will be fairly behind with more cpu power.

Nice test.

It's obvious that 1280x1024 is a low resolution to represents the real power of these cards.
Low resolution with low cpu clock makes the "little" cards relatively stronger than "big" cards.
BTW 9600gt clocks nicely with low efforts and for the price is a good choice... In this "xtreme" forum people don't like so much the middle hardware

On stock settings 8800gt is far ahead... Only reason 9600gt catches up is that I can clock it very high...

It's not brainer 112sp vs 64sp..

I'm building a new system with 8800 GTX for another client.. Now that's a real video card... 9800GTX comes out on April 1st at the Fry's near my house... The slae person saind its 350 bucks...

May be I'll do a 8800GTX vs 9800GTX... Some real world benchies like some people suggested
