Geforce Titan - GK110 will be a consumer part

But with restrictions. 3rd party manufacturers cant even put their own stickers on the card and must follow the nvidia reference design to the letter, which I gather means no over voltage, and limited OC.

With $899 MSRP you don't need a crystal ball to see the coming "Yeearggh! Evil EenVeeDeeya haxorz?! How darez they make a card that performs about as well as their $999 card and charge $899 for it!?!?! If they were a sensible price like $300, I'd buy two!".

    LOL

I'd also predict that if it offers 75% of GTX690 performance, they will not only sell out at that price, they will be hard to get for a long time. (remembers trying to buy a GTX690 for weeks till giving up and keeping 680 SLi)

Good news if true, always fun to see new high end cards.

Default speed, noise + power consumption will always be the N1, N2 and N3 deciding factors for a purchase of a graphics card.

Overclocability will never come above those items for the average consumer.

they better hurry up and get these things out. My GTX 480's are getting a little old and I didn't feel that the 680's were enough of an upgrade. once these new cards and the AMD new cards come out I will by 3 or 4 of whatever is fastest. If these cards are really 85% the power of a GTX690 then the though of 4 of them in Quad SLI... is exciting to say the least.

If GK110 is being released now you have to believe it's just to ensure AMD's 8970 doesn't have things all it's way until the 780 is released.

Wouldn't imagine it having much of a shelf life, and will probably be very limited units.

It's not hard to guess, in a few months times the news consoles will be out and their ports will follow in all their unoptimized glory. I'm not even sure if the "Titan" would be enough for those titles in 1440p...

My next video card needs to be able to do 4k at 100 fps. Crunching is better done in amd cards anyways.

Is there even a game that allows 4k resolution right now? Or that comes out in 2013?

    I don't think so.

IDK that would be pretty disappointing imo. They didn't go charging more for GTX580 or GTX285. I would be a bit surprised if they literally charged twice the msrp of the year old GTX680.

You can bet that you would be seeing people complaining about Nvidia selling a single gpu for $900 that you can't overclock. Most people aren't that big of a fanboy. At $700 I would be all over one, at $900 not a chance in hell.

you also have to consider that due to low clock you are going from the 680 that is about 1.65tflops to this that is just under 1.9tflops, it should also have a worse TMU to shader ratio than the 680 if it is like the other 100 v 104 parts, that makes it way overpriced IMO.

    QFT

I can't see this sticking around at this price for long. I think that they're just gouging early adopters again GTX280 style.

Back in 2005, I told people to buy any 512MB 7800GTX for MSRP $700 that they could, even though it was an obscene amount of money for a video card in 2005. People scoffed and said "Only a FANBOY would pay that! It's a ripoff!".

That was before they sold out at $700 instantly and people started paying $800, $900 and up for them.

"Fanboy" has nothing to do with it- there's a market of people who will pay $1000 for the top end video card or CPU, no matter who builds it. It's the E-peen factor.

A shame, it's drool-worthy but I'm not sure how much faster (if it's only a 732mhz core with 5200mhz mem @ 384-bit) it would be than my 24/7 oc'd 1370mhz core/6900mhz mem (@ 256-bit) GTX 670 Gigabyte Windforce 3, which also is nice and quiet thanks to its custom cooler.

Still, I have NO doubt these will sell out quickly and easily for nVidia. And, if they're overclockable well at all, I'll still be drooling. However, I'll hold out for the GTX 780 if it's significantly faster, or Maxwell.

What are you talking about 1.65 tflops?

The difference between the gtx 560ti and 580 was 35-40 percent in performance but the difference between actual parts is 33% actually. I think the TMU/shader ratio seems more balance than anything with gk110. With gf110 to gf114. The shaders increase 33%(384->512)TMU 0(TMU 64--> 64) ROPs 50%(ROP 32-->48). With GK110-104, we see a 88 increase in both Shaders and TMUs, 50% increase in ROPs. It seems the performance difference should be greater at equal clocks. However Gk110 will be clocked lower as have the higher end cards have always been .

Although I think 899 is too high of a price its not that far off base. $499 seems to low of a price considering what both AMD/Nvidia tried to sell to us this year for that price. Considering all things $799(a gk110 die costs more than triple a gk104 die(I would be surprised be surprised if it was 5-10x more ) would be a fair price. The yields on this card are likely substantially worse than anything else produced at the moment and since Nvidia doesnt have the paying for working die contract in place anymore, paying a price more similar to the gtx 8800/gtx280 pre price cut, seems appropriate if it manages to be 40-50% faster than a gtx 680/7970.

being a 1x0 part that should be the 780 unless that is saved for maxwell. if that card overclocks or gets some high clocked non reference at about 1ghz that would be a beast even at that price.

Thats true, its just too bad that at that price it won't even effect the pricing of a single other card on the market.

Yep, definitely at those kinds of clocks or decent oc'ability, it would be incredible.

Hypocritical much? And price-performance doesn't matter in all cases, there are other factors to a video card such as features, drivers, overall performance, cooling/noise, power consumption, etc.
