Yeah, I've looked hard into PSU's (like everything else) and the reviews for that Kingwin are really solid. It's a sweet PSU and I like the cabling. If I could wait, I'd pick up a CoolerMaster 900 UCP but they won't be available for another week or so, at best. I also looked at the Antec Signature Series 850W, which also got very impressive reviews. If I do have problems with anything I get, (including the Kingwin) I'll RMA it and post some results.

Plan on prepping reviews for everything I get anyway.

reviews are fine and all, but the 1000HX is the best deal and looks of any powersupply around. The kingwin looks great and all except the modular design looks bulky and difficult to work with. The 1000HX has excellent sleeved wires and all the modular cables are flat and black, subtlety is the best feature you can find in a PSU

Agreed, entirely on your point about reviews, etc.

Hmm I looked again at photos of both and the Kingwin actually has sleeved cables, even the mod ones. The corsair has the old-school flat and lame connections. Unless the pics are wrong?

Like I said earlier, I'm gonna labrat this thing. If it blows, no biggie I have a spare and can RMA it.

None of these reviews used load testers and oscilloscope. They should not hold much weight in your decision.

The PSU was tested with underpowered rigs.

You should look for reviews like jonnyguru, hardware secrets, hardocp, anandtech etc... They test units at 100% load among other things.

Your planned rig probably uses more than 700W under load, Id not recommend anything less than an Corsair 1kw or an similar, proven PSU. Big mistake to skimp on the PSU here, when it blows it could take other parts.

The review means basically nothing, the system was pulling like 300W. If you take your time and read one of the review sites i said you will see what it takes to properly test an PSU.

Your build does not make sense for the purposes you outlined (PSDs, movie playback, presentations). You are trying to buy as much expensive stuff as possible, slap it all together to meet the $10k cap.

it's been pounded to death though. a $2000 system would meet any requirements, but he's bent on blowing his 5k budget and wants to be able to brag about it. I'll give him credit though, he's very honest about it lol.

Build suggestions have been right from the P5Q-D to the Skulltrail, and everything in between. It's been 16 days since he first posted the same thread at XS, and he has people rebuilding his rig over there like mad. I think it's down to being an attention whore and pole-vaulting on the e-peen like it's an Olympic event.

i dont see the point though. the system is going to be obsolete soon anyways. its cheaper, and better performance-wise to just keep upgrading.

with $10k you can build a new $2k box every 6mo or some upgrades, and stay on the cutting edge for a few years. instead of a $10k box that is useless is 18mo.


but that's nothing to brag about.
