Talking Modified Intel laptop drivers for gaming! (Good FPS!)

As some of you may of read in the general hardware section I've been somewhat outraged at my 4500M IGPU, on paper its a OK laptop chip that again on paper (10 unified pipelines) should be capable of playing older games with good FPS, yet it doesn't. So I've taken up arms and modded some intel drivers What I've actually done is taken the latest Intel drivers meant for the latest i5 and i7 CPUs with on-die IGPU and modded them to work with laptop IGPUs. The performance improvement... is nothing short of staggering. Here is what I used to score with the following configuration:

    T7700 (2.4GHz Dual Core, 4MB cache)
    2x2GB PC6400 5-5-5-15
    4500M

Windows Experience Index score for Desktop and 3D gaming with the latest vanilla intel drivers (2413) were 3.6 and 3.3, respectively. (Sorry no SS forgot to take one)

    With my modified 2413 drivers Desktop and 3D gaming scores are 3.6 and 4.1! as can be seen here;

Modded 4500 Driver for Win7 & Vista 64bit Based on latest 2869 driver, last driver I'll make. 3DM06 score with these is 925pts, I doubt these drivers are getting any better without somebody addressing the issues you can read about in the readme file.

No worries. I see a lot of folks demanding reasonable FPS out of their 4500 chips (which is a reasonable ask really) and intel always dropping the ball. Figured more people would have laptops here than it seems

Small update, through advanced driver optimisation Intel 4 Series IGPUs benefit from a small performance bump. I'm still working on squeezing more out of the chip. This small bump has been achieved through setting 192MB default vRAM instead of 128MB.

6 3D marks would be within margin of error, wouldn't it?

Anyway, what were the old drivers scoring?

    Good stuff btw, very impressive.

When it comes to intel IGP, 6 points is actually a very very very small gain and not a fluke. If I remember correctly, vanilla 2413s scored ~740pts in 3D06. I've just finished some more driver tweaks, check this screen out, none too shabby looking for a 4500M I'm working on trying to get to 1100-1200pts in 3DM06. That'll be a truely maxxed out result for a 4500M, I'd love to see some 4500MHD or 4700MHD 3DM06 results when I release the revised driver (currently ver.2.1).

I'll upload the revised driver later, time for me to grab some sleep now. The current driver thats available won't give all of the gains of the revised driver, but none the less you will probably see some improvements with it. For reference, according to HERE a 4500M should be maxxing out with 871pts (don't know what config was used for that) with a average of 663pts.

I thought the MHD models were just those with HDMI ports :\

EDIT: Got the package to DL now BTW. Seems the issue stems from FireFox for some reason, as it worked fine in IE

I have no use for these, and I cannot test them, but my hat is off to you, sir.

4500MHD is clocked 133MHz higher than the 4500M. I'm trying to fine tune the revised driver again as I mistakenly deleted the wrong drivers and the best I can re-tune the drivers to is about 880pts in 3DM06 so far

The best thing to do for the 965 is download a app called GMA Booster. Its the only software that can actually OC the 965 IGPU. While on the subject of OC, if there is anybody who has figured out how to OC the 4500M, say by hardware ID manipulation, let me know.

    After much pains, I have re-discovered the optimisation settings for maximum performance AND quality Through fine-tuning I've even been able to bump a few more points too. Heres the latest results;

    Full readme for rev 2.2 2413 modded driver;

    Changelog:

Modified Intel GMA X4500M / MHD Driver

    - For Win7 64bit
    - Based on Intel 2413 driver
    - Increased maximum allowable allocated memory for IGP from 512MB > 1GB
    - Reduced DP Detection delay from 1000ms to 750ms
    - Reduced HDMI Detection delay from 1000ms to 750ms
    - Added experimental HDMI Over/Underscan support
    - Added Intel Control Center from desktop 2462 driver
    - Increased default video memory from 128MB to 192MB
    - By default, "On Battery" and "Plugged In" power options are set to "Balance"
    - Improved Vertex Processing by around 10%.
    - Improved Pixel Shader processing by around 30%. (32FPS avg vs. 25FPS avg in 3D06 PS test)

    Added Experimental OpenGL Support for:

    Viewperf
    UT2004
    CM09OGL
    Photoshop
    FJVPS
    Amnesia

    Added Experimental D3D support for:

    Tropico

    Compatible Chipsets:

    Intel(R) Pentium(R) Processor
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 Processor
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 Processor
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 Mobile Processor
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 Mobile Processor
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 Mobile Processor
    Intel(R) B43 Express Chipset
    Intel(R) G41 Express Chipset
    Intel(R) G43 Express Chipset
    Intel(R) G45 Express Chipset
    Intel(R) Q43 Express Chipset
    Intel(R) Q45 Express Chipset
    Mobile Intel(R) GL40 Express Chipset
    Mobile Intel(R) GM45 Express Chipset
    Mobile Intel(R) GS45 Express Chipset

    Install Instructions:

Uninstall any Intel IGPU drivers currently installed
Boot to safe mode and verify no Intel drivers are still on the system (right-click "Computer" > "Properties" > "Device Manager" > "Display Adapter")
If other drivers are present uninstall them checking the "Delete the driver software for this device" box
Do a registry cleanup (may not be required)
    Restart
    Install modded drivers
Unfortunately, I don't think its possible to increase performance further. We are going to have to rely on Intel starting to write good drivers. Assigning additional system memory to the problem doesn't help, you won't gain anything.

Didn't realise the guy making that utility still handn't released a app for X3100 users, in that case I'll whip up a quick INF mod file for people to use.

ED - I think I just threw up in my mouth a bit... seriously intel? 2009 was the last time you updated the X3100 driver?

Here is the modded driver for X3100 IGPUs. Its actually just a INF mod, but to save millions of people asking me where to put the one file.. heres the whole package.

    - Changed maximum memory allocation from 256/512 to 1GB
    - Increased default memory allocation (don't know what to as I dunno what these IGPUs use as default)
