Moving up to 100

News flash 10/31/2009 beededbeep beep beep bedeeddep beep ... last night while Snow Crash was trying to push through to the top 100 position inside team XS, 123bob thwarted that attempt by adding some muscle one of his most precious accounts ... 123sarah. When asked for comment Snow Crash replied "I did not advertise or boast about pushing 123sarah out of the top 100 but I just knew Bob was never going to let that happen. This just means I have to wait another day and then Kangaroo is going down, and I'm in!" When asked for comment all 123bob did was smile.

123Sarah has been pushed out of the top 100 many times, but she just keeps chugging along right back into it! Gotta give her credit for persistance!

News flash ...... Bob reports that he was moving some rigs back home and somehow lost 6 quads.

He said, "That's what I get for letting the hamsters type. Sarah must have bribed them into it, since lately, she has been feeding the hamsters in that rack of rigs...."

Actually, it has more to do with Bob being lazy, rather than having Sarah escape from the wheels of the Snow Crash bus. That will happen, just perhaps not today... This is the first time Bob has added rigs to Sarah's account. The purpose is to put her on the same DC-Stats page so he doesn't have to scroll down and hit next. This author thinks this is a pretty limp excuse on Bob's part.

Sarah has been relentlessly crunching one single G0 quad for a few years now. She does it on her own and manages her own machine. Since she has hovered around the 100th place mark for some time, this show what just a single determined quad can do. With the proliferation of i7 rigs, perhaps a horsepower upgrade will be needed to maintain status quo. Dual Gulftowns or another rig for her to manage?

to both Sarah and Snow Crash. You both rock.

I agree she's earned it. She's a relentless cruncher...

I'm actually thinking the 920 rig with a Gulftown upgrade later...I won't use the 920 for my main since I have a dually with very special harpers in it. I'll go dual gulfs for my next main rig.

Bob

Well that's extra nice. I figured the lack of upgrade path for the 860 would make it perfect to pawn off on her !

Seeing as I am running my own rigs I dont have to worry about managing someone else's machines and I am pretty sure they will stay running as I also am the one paying the bills so no one will be able to ... wait ... don't tell my wife how much electricity this is costing :-). Certainly only time will tell if I stay but as long as nothing really weird happens, everyone between me and 50 should start thinking about upgrades :-)

Congrats on makeing it into the top 100.
I am at 56 atm. I just added another i7 and sold off my last Q6000. Hate to say it, but I don't think I have to worry for awhile.

I already replaced my old crap (1 P4 and 2 P3s) last March with my first i7 and just fired up a second one a few weeks ago ... sheesh ... I need a little recuperation time before adding more. I think from a power and cooling perspective that upgrading to i9s may be the only core changes I make for the coming year. I would really like to switch to SSDs and pick up some more RAM before I get the i9s. I might add a new GPU when the 300s come out or maybe something in the ATI family if HCC gets a port to OpenCL.

We all do what we can for the cause. I wish that I could do more.Only have 4 rigs crunching. The main thing is to keep crunching.

Ah! I found your problem! See, you replaced 1 P4 and 2 P3s. That's 3 computers. Now you added one i7 in March and just fired up your other i7. That's two computers.

So, check my math on that, but it looks to me like you're a computer short.

(I know we all do what we can, and I'm not really gettin on to him as I replaced 2 of my crunchers with an i7... 2:1 vs 3:2 - Even worse ratio than SC here... Just fun to give him a hard time. Sure he knows its all in good spirits. )

Edit: Oh, and i'd love to try out one of the new 5950's... but till GPUGrid, or WCG supports it, even if I managed to come up with the money, and could convince myself that that's what I needed to spend the money on right now, it'd be Nvidia all the way...

Now when WCG does fire up a GPU project I will add another high end card to the second machine so does that put me at up to three again ... crap ... by Otis math I still only have 2 computers
(still not counting the lappy that only does a couple or 4 HPF2s per night)

OK, I found the lost quads. They all came home tonight, just in time for the wheels on the bus to miss Martijn....

So, Snow, go ahead and run her over.... .....But realize this, I showed her this thread and now she knows. Knowing her, she will be on my azz for Christmas about getting a new rig, or 4....... (OK, end of "smack-talk" )

She's in 94th place for now. I see some power coming up behind her. Good on you folks. Keep it up and keep crunching. This is a tortoise-and-hare thing. Crunch constantly, with whatever hardware you have, and you will rise up the ranks. I started with a single P4 Northwood....I didn't always put up a WU per day, but what I did put up was constant. Then came the quads....

I've seen so many come on really hot, only to fade into the dust of the tortoise's rear view mirror. For example, in our heavyweight division, Shintai was one of those folks. He absolutely burned through our ranks and it looked like only DDTung was going to prevent Shintai from taking the top. Now look, I have TRIPLE his total points.

Also realize this, I mean absolutely no offense or "smack-talk" at Shintai. He did what he was capable of doing at the time, and his situation changed. to the Shintai Express when it was running. It was something to truly behold.

My best to all of you,
Bob

Oh Dr. SiG, Paging Dr. SiG.......We have another one for you....

By my math, yes Otis, you are exactly correct. However, just remember that I have had several years of therapy from Dr. SiG myself though.......
