AMD debuts the cheapest quad core

AMD has revealed the cheapest Quad core dubbed as Athlon II X4 (Porpus) making their offerings more and more tempting. The newer Quad core is a part of the low-mid segment named as Athlon II. The newer Athlon II is based on the newer Phenom II architecture with removal of L3 cache and substantial die size reduction. [CENTER]

The newer Athlon II X4 opens a new dimension for the HTPC and low/mid end segment. The lowest model i.e. the AII X4 620 (2.6ghz) will retail for $99 while the 630 (2.8ghz) model will retail for $125 . The 620 has shown some decent over-clocking potential with capability to hit 1ghz+ stable overclock with a slight bump in voltage.

Both processors fit into AM3 sockets and support DDR3 memory speeds of up to 1,333MHz, as well. The $99 price tag on the X4 620 is especially interesting, because it brings quad cores even below triple-core Phenom II territory. Intel's cheapest quad-core CPU, the 2.33GHz Core 2 Quad Q8200, remains priced at $150.

No need to get lower clocked variant . The C3 will substantially lower the TDp

I pretty sure those chips could run lower TDPs, they actually won't hit those numbers anyways. The TDP doesn't bother me, I know they can be undervolted anyways. I like the prices.
