    Pun aside, the 3.2 GHz Core i7 processor used in this article seems to be a very good match for heavy weight Multi-GPU environments, whatever your preference is: 3-way SLI or QuadFire. You will not likely run into CPU bottlenecks anytime soon. That's of course until ATI and NVIDIA release faster cards again, which is bound to happen anyway.

    But in retrospect the Core i7 platform is a fantastic platform for multi-GPU gaming as you'll gain heaps... seriously heaps and heaps more performance opposed to today's regular PCs with a Core 2 Duo processor.

    The limits hard-wired into the core are 100 A and 130 watts.
    P = IV

    P = 130W, I = 100A,

    Vmax = 1.3V

    The TDP-limitation seems to be active on some boards like the DX54SO only. You can push the CPU further on the ASUS P6T (Bios 0802) for instance.
    Notice any grammar or spelling mistakes? Feel free to correct me! Thanks

    Legion Hardware also has FC2 high setting results.

    The outcome is kind of the same.

    I m confused then, because the toms hardware analysis of it stated it was hardwired into the cpu. So it just a bios that cpu'id;s the proc and then limits based on the chip? If so hacked bios's going to be necessary?

    just read Anand's. Very well put together, can't wait for their memory guide. If any of those that have one could test it, I would love to see the effects of increasing the un-core multi at some constant settings everywhere else. That would be the equivalent of the new tRD.

    Wow Crysis finally conquered! Looks like if you want to get the most out of your GFX card (esp cards) you will need a i7.

    So much for all the FUD along the way. i7 truely shines today

    Power consumption, speed, overclocking with BCLK, games (Cept one or 2. But overall better) etc.

    @OBR

    I cannot believe your winrar score for the phenom. 1060kb/s is somewhat low that i think you messed up something. You should get at least 1800kb/s

    Yeah but i'm thinking more about the next gen GFX cards and more immeadiately the 280GX2, which should be a lot cheaper. Looks like (compared to the 4870X2 which it should be quicker) it will easily handle very high on 1920, but you'll need an i7 to get the most out of it. It's great for those who want to upgrade as this shows that the Core Duo (even Quads) can't keep up with this gen's gfx cards (multiple i.e ATi's high end from now on) and therefore probably the next after.

    I don't think anyone in their right mind actually believed that Nehalem would perform worse than Penryn. But it is indeed nice to see that OCing is still perfectly possible - it'll just be a wee bit more complicated than merely bumping up FSB&voltage.

    That said I'm not quite completly convinced that the entire platform is worthwhile yet as a desktop platform - a Q9550+p45 board and decent DDR2 is only about 5-10% slower overall than a i7 920+X58 board+DDR3.
    For server, workstation and HPC use OTOH nehalem wins big time...

    Edit: actually according to this review - there actually were a greater performance improvement overall going Kentsfield->Yorkfield than Yorkfield->Nehalem

    OBR, did you happen to test the 965 at different UCLK multies?
