Overclocking through ntune makes bluescreen at about 230HTT no matter ram settings etc, just like yankee.

I assumed overclocking through bios didn't work because of no change to HTT in cpuz when I applied changes in bios.

However I did get bluescreens, so apparantly there were some changes done when ocing HTT in bios.

Therefore I oced HTT to 220 in bios, booted, and with no apparant changes to HTT I oc'd it to 250 no probs, benchable at stock vcore ( +0,03v "default" overvolting by board).
I think I have an old version of Clockgen lying around on a cd, will be testing that when I'm back from vacation (by then I will get my cpu#2 too), it seems the board (and cpu) can go further

I can not run systool under vista x64, or do I have an old version? I can change cpu vid (but it is at max already, 1,2v) in aod, thats the only one, will check out with c'n'q.

Edit: Just tried, no voltage control by enabling c'n'q

BTW: Ain't you running x86? Then you don't need the "hack" and can run the regular 209 version wich is the last to "support" nVidia chipsets. That might be the reason why you have more options.

BTW2: Did you see the nice scaling with four cores at cinebench? 4.06x Weird

Are you running C'n'Q on your platform?
Disable it and redo Cinebench R10

I'm not running c'n'q, standard frequencies for the 2347 is 1,9GHz with NB 1,4GHz, with 9,5 and 7 as multis. Oc'd 475MHz for an early BA revision. Max HTT in nTune is 250, so this is the max for now, need clockgen to go further.

yeah that 250 limit sucks. i started a thread to see if it could be raised by editing the software but it didnt go anywhere, maybe it something could be done if we emailed nvidia

    Hey Likmark
    congratulations for your Ocing results!!!
It was my hope!!! I think that B3 Opterons are somewhat locked....
So I'll definitively wait for shangai... no more time waste behind these b3 stepping.....
    However very very good results!!!

    components...

    The strange thing is:
we have the same ram modules type and part....
    the same motherboard....
    the same core barcelona....
the things that we don't share are:
2 8800GTS SLI and maybe the PSU...
LikMark and me too have the Kinston KVR800D2D8P6K2/4G ...
but different CPU stepping.... so there is no voltage limitation.... I have 1.26V on my mobo and Likmark 1.28.... I don't think that 0.02V will give 200Mhz overclock....
However I'm not capable of making that kind of voltmods.... I will easily destroy my mobo causing a nuclear detonation.. I'm still a noob...

I had to drop to 266 divider to be able to oc, IMO it is ram thats holding back for you yankee. Tight subtimings are killing your overclock when you get around 230'ish HTT. I used memclk 266 with, "manual" settings (wich is really loose timings) I'll probably do a voltmod myself when I'm back from vacation btw.

    Edit:

@ msimax: We should email them all of us, nagging them about releasing a new nTune where voltage regulation etc is included, and no limit on HTT clocking.

BTW: Have you checked the older versions if they are any better? Iirrc I had a nTune version where HTT went all the way up to 500 with my crosshair. Worth a shot I think

@ [XC] Kayin: Lol, nice going "tri sli for sims 3" . Go for some cheap stuff from Ebay like msimax, Lotsa good deals on the second gen Opterons now!

LOL. What for? "Please learn to do your job"??

Serious: We have to email them about new bios too, yes.

I asked them a few questions some time ago:
    Hello!

Are there any hardware changes done to the WS/B board that makes it different from
the L1N64WS SLI for the FX cpus. (exept colour of the pci-e slots and soldered bios
    chip)

Does the WS/B board support DDPW or "split power planes"?

Will the WS/B bios work on the WS board and vice versa? Granted that you use the
right kind of memory and cpu for the respective board/bios.

    Regards

    Christian
    Answer:
    Dear Valued ASUS Customer

For an exact reply one has to do the actual test physically, but dueto our experiance this might most probably not work. The BIOS will most likely not work since it is still 2 different boards and there might be some changes.

Please also check the input that is posted on our FAQ and Forum sites

    Thank you!

    Best Regards
    ASUS TMSS Support
... Thank you very much for nothing...

The one question he actually answered, he answered wrong.

As he only answered to parts of my question, I asked him again about the rest, and have not gotten any replies yet. (It's about a month ago I think)

    Yeah, ebay is my friend...

Those prices are insane, QC opties for 99 bucks...

Thinking I'll stay DC and hold onto my RAM a while, then at tax time dump and go quads. Should work pretty well...

Platform as a whole just plain would handle my needs better than what I have.

Still never saw a Speedster2 for sale...

    2.5GHz with B3

    ok!!
    I got it!!!
I got 2.5GHz with 3:4 ram divisor and single channel mode...
I noticed that placing ram in dual channel mode and 3:4 divisor prevents me to boot under vista and make blue screen in xp after some minutes....
I'm sure that i can go further.... much more...
    this is the validation:
    http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=389848
Thanks to likmark... Now I've to understand what locks our ram so low....
these are DDR2-800 incapable of reaching more than 750MHz..... blah.... worst buy for now.... time to ask kingston for few info...

PS: temperatures are stable under 40° C even under load (i use FX Heatsink and fan) and the system is clearly stable without problems....

this board does have a problem sometimes with setting the mem sub timings to tight i tried contacting asus but i get the same runnaround maybe if we all contacted them on the issue we can get a new bios with new mem timings and otions that stick when you set them.

yo yankee try this clockgen 1.0.4.6 with C&Q on in the bios and max battery in power profiles and after you reach 250 load this and see if you can go higher

    Overclock

I used ClockGen 1.0.5.3 and i got almost 2.6GHz without problems, so these CPUs are capable to reach 2.8/2.9GHz with a light overvolt (0.1/0.2V)..
    However Now there's another problem:
When I put 2 modules of ram on both the yellow sockets the system enters in dual channel configuration, and won't let me enter Vista x64 (blue screen error) with 533 divisor (4:3); but when i put the 2 modules on A1 and A2, the dual channel mode is disabled, and the system is capable of booting without problems and o'cking to 2.5GHz....
So the dual channel mode is not working good for this processor....
    @Likmark:
How did you make to boot on vista 64 with your ram modules on 533 (4:3) divisor and dual channel too?????

    However Now there's another problem:
When I put 2 modules of ram on both the yellow sockets the system enters in dual channel configuration, and won't let me enter Vista x64 (blue screen error) with 533 divisor (4:3); but when i put the 2 modules on A1 and A2, the dual channel mode is disabled, and the system is capable of booting without problems and o'cking to 2.5GHz....
So the dual channel mode is not working good for this processor....
    @Likmark:
How did you make to boot on vista 64 with your ram modules on 533 (4:3) divisor and dual channel too?????
    1 nice oc
2 did you try to set a htt over 250 in the bios to see if that raises the max limit in ntune
3 for the dual channel issue did you try to turn of bank interleave or node and
maybe run vistas or memtest before going into windows just to make sure its not your ram giving you issue
