[Engadget] Flood of leaked images suggest Nokia/WP8 smartphone with huge PureView cam

I'm an Android user though, and I'd really like to have that kind of camera with the flexibility of programs that Android has. Yes I also have WP8 too, and you can really tell from the app selection and their maturity that MS was VERY late to the game. My opinion: They're competing against the HTC Ones/SG4s/iPhone 5s with the equivalent of iPhone 2 apps/UI. We'll see how things look if/when this device comes to market.

    Wow @ that cam.
Still, it's probably saves them as jpg's anyways so it loses at least half it's details.
Shame phones these days aren't setup to allow you to save as a png by default without replacing the camera app or modding it.

I'm more into the idea of the size of the back facing cams, you can barely tell they are there.
They are just a little bit bigger then the head of a pin.
I wish the front facing cams were that way too, they could use polarized glass and you'de never beable to see them, that would be sleek.
Then we could have 3 of them on the front.
2 for stereo 3d, and the other masked off for gamma radiation scanning.

Shame, but nokia has fallen behind.
They'de have to be apple to compete, and back in the day they essentially were just the same.

My PureView 808's camera is still going strong, after both (accidentally, I'm not loony) dropping THEN kicking it across my driveway. Hilarious series of events, but still good! Hope they keep that quality with this sensor.

I had a 808 it was a good camera phone but not even in the same boat as my old 16MP sony CCD camera. That sucked a 41MP camera being less clear/detailed than a 16MP one so i asked around turned out that the 41MP is more of word play than real spec.

The lesson was phone cameras are still phone cameras "Nokia 3650 i am thinking about u"

I know exactly what you mean, a friend of mine did the same thing to a Maxtor 1GB drive some time back, when it just appeared and was going for some insane price..

Sensor looks smaller than the 808. It's hard to have much faith in nokia after they slapped the pureview logo on a 8mp camera with a tiny sensor and tried to pass off DSLR photos as samples.

I had Nokia Lumia 920 for 3months, its good phone but Windows Phone 8 OS sucks.
Moved back to Android, picked up Galaxy S4.
Mostlikely never going back to Windows Phone.

Not even Nokia's EOS camera phone will move me back to WP8.

out of curiosity what is your hot button? personally i think so many cellphones are so so similar (hardwware wise) nowadays the only place that companies can differentiate themselves is in the camera/optics area.

    Network (has to be Verizon)
    screen
    removable battery
    expandable storage
    good GPS
    good battery life
    phone aesthetics

Those are all much more important to me than having a "good" cell phone camera.

This is one weird looking phone. (although I realize it has to be to edge into camera world) Just looked at the Pureview 808- that does seem to be a good camera, just not what I care about in a phone.

It's 38 MP out of the box, you can tweak it to use all 41 MP, but the 8 MP Pureview setting is the one I prefer.

Of course there are better cameras out there, but no better camera phone.
Good luck trying to take a photo of a flying bird where you can read the ID tag, or record a concert, with anything else than a 808.

I'd buy one if it didn't have Windows Craphone.
Friends shouldn't let friends use Windows 7 until Microsoft fixes Windows Explorer (link)
