WOW!, sorry about your luck man (BTW, love your avatar, what could be better than kittens and tits ) ...
I really get the feeling from your posts that it was more of a memory compatability problem than anything else. I've personally had good luck with Mushkin, sometimes you have to fiddle with it to get it to work but the end results are usually worth the effort.

I know it seems like I've been ragging on the 790XT-UD4P, but the more I play with this board, the more I like it, and I'm not really a big fan of GBT boards... I've had more than my share of problems with them in the past when using Phenom chips.

This board seems to be the exception though... It has it's quirks and the BIOS/Hooks still need alot of work, but overall the hardware seems to be VERY solid!

One of the nicest features is the F11/F12 bios functions that allows you to save 8 different configurations, plus saving additional configs to a USB drive. It comes in really handy when you need to fall back to something stable..

I went all the way back to the "F4" release bios tonight, and so far, I've had the best luck with it, and YES, it unlocks my 4th core on the 720BE...

I've had pretty good luck with this board but I still don't trust all the voltages. I'm gonna try to test the CPU-NB vid this weekend of all the voltages thats the one I trust the least.

    Looking forward to that Dave
I'm very curious about that too because i can't read that value anywhere, after i've set some extra v's for it.
Should be very interesting. How do you plan on reading the correct v's?

Got my RAM problem fixed by the kind people over at mushkin. To anyone looking to run reasonable timings @ 1600mhz on this board, I highly recommend adding at least +0.2v to both the northbridge and the southbridge....maybe even +0.3v on the southbridge. Success!

you think that will help DDR2 mushkin as well ? I only have +.1 Volts added to the southbridge, and .2 to the north bridge.

new part benchmarks, i have problem with validation, i dont know why ...I tried some multiplier with diferent buss speed, but nothink...Why?I mean, its not max my CPU

    4162MHz 225*18.5

    4176MHz 232*18 :? :? :?

    Everest bench:

    my superpí 1M :-)

winrar bench -yes, its not too much, because im limited my NB and bug BIOS...i need + 400MHz more for better score about 3MB/s

    wprime 32M speedtest

to time max OC :? 1.5V core (overvolt 1.52 in real)

and my bad cable management :-D

I bet it will, at least bump the southbridge up a notch. Also, this board/mushkin RAM (who really knows which...) is really fussy about "Write Recovery Time" ... so be very generous, if you find that your memory isn't stable/wont post, try increasing that timing (even to the highest possible value) before anything else.

    Testing IMC V's w/DMM

I went and bought a DMM today to finally determine how the CPU-NB was being set by the bios. I really didn't realize how small those legs are on the IC's (they look so much bigger in pics! )

Long story short, I poked around a little on the legs that were easy to get to (with no luck), but I was really worried about shorting something and killing my board.... Sorry folks, I chickened out.

I did finally get my NB up to 2600 the other night by going 1 bump past +.25..
I'm not comfortable running it that high 24/7 but at least I'm pretty sure it's making some kind of change to the IMC volts.

thanks, i ll try this tommorow Hopefully i can get past this 3.5ghz wall my 720 seems to have, i know its ram related, and i ve tried jacking the cpu nb vid up, so it doesnt seem like the imc, the ram is at 2.0v and i havent really oc'd it still at ddr2 800 , with555 timings, i ll modify the write recovery though, and bump my sb volts up

FWIW villa1n, my 720 seemed to have the same 3.5Ghz wall.

gotVoltage mentioned in another thread that the "TMPIN1" temperature in HWMonitor was showing the correct core temp for the CPU even though individual core temps weren't showing when unlocked. So I started watching it and he seems to be right. At least it acts like CPU temp (goes up quickly under load and drops quickly when idle).

I remembered watching temps on my 940 (Asus board) and it would always fail ~55c.... Sure enough, everytime my 720 would crash on this board TMPIN1 would be around 55c too!

So here is what I did:
Lowered CPU-NB multi to stock (10x)
    Set CPU-NBvid to -.25 (1.75v)...
These 2 things helped keep TMPIN1 ~55c under load...

The end result was finally getting my chip stable at 3.62Ghz!

    CLICKABLE:

This may not be the best option for performance (stock IMC), but I'll certainly be keeping an eye on that temp when OC'ing...

If it wasn't such a pain to pull the water block off my main rig I'd stick it on this chip and see how far it would go. I get the feeling it might actually do a little better than my 940 if I could keep core temps under control...

He sent me his board since gigabyte did not seem to have any interest in sending me one......Lets see if we can get this board and the bugs figured out now.

    WooHoo!!! Thanks Nanohead...

Glad you finally got a 790XT-UD4P chew*, I've really grown to like this board. In fact I've ordered some better ram for it.
Not sure I made the best choice, but it's alot better than what I have.
    http://www.mwave.com/mwave/skusearch...iteria=BA24760
The price was definetly right! Any Opinion?

I've got a 4 day weekend coming up next week (vacation), if this new ram works out, I'm seriously considering moving this settup to my main rig and putting it under water. I get the feeling if I can keep temps under control this 720 might outperform my 940, and DDR3 couldn't hurt...

Looking forward to your results man.

I think some of you guys NB on your chips just may be weak......

Now you know why I picked the 720 over the 955......I really didn't feel like wasting paste for cpu swaps......Not when I can have 1 cpu cover tri and quad testing.

True 120 air testing....nothing is tweaked yet......I am going to have to chat with gigabyte about some missing ram tuning options......

The 3000 NB is not stable FYI, just stable in some benches...however was doable with ease...( I would guess 2900 ish will be however )

Sheez, I think more than just my NB is weak.

Sheez, I think more than just my NB is weak.

    Is that benchable?
Well I consider benchable cinebench stable.....so no but it boots which is a big +...2800-2900 most likely will be according to my chart plotter since 1m is stable.....gotta dial in ram in the AM first though. Been a long day installing OS's and such.....still got a vista install to do on an IDE drive

Nanohead do you mind if I swap out the pushpins for the hardmount bolts/springs for NB and SB off my dead 790FX-UD5P? Not to fond of these pushpins....

My OCZ AM3 kit aka same things as OCZ animals. No clue if its stable yet, I will tackle prime and prime stable bios shots though

These sticks do considerably faster speeds than they are running atm.
