the bios helps with all the internal devices network adapter sata controllers for performance and fixes. I always recommend you do a full bios cmos reset on bios update so yes you would have to put all oc settings again , but with this board you can take bios screen shot for future refrence

Check SpeedStep and C1E is enabled in UEFI and also check Windows power options. If the Windows power options profile is set to high performance, the processor will not go into low power state.

I've had similar issues on a different platform.
My method of a fix is the same as Raja's, except that I use the high performance power management profile in windows.
And customize it.
Power Options CPL -> Change plan settings (click on the one that matches the profile you're using).
A new window pops up and now goto Processor power management -> Minimum processor state.
In this setting it's a %, set it to 0%.
If already at 0, then set at something else and then back to 0%... (I've had to do this in certain cases it seemed)
No reboot needed, it should idle within a min..
IF that doesn't fix it right away ...
Then you'll have to check the device manager.
I found that if you gut the cpu driver out of the services in the registry, it won't idle anymore (del'ing the service but not the classes).
In which case all I needed to do was del what remained of them in the device manager (in my case 6 of them), and restart windows.
After that it would reinstall them automatically (the driver comes with windows...), and then I would redo the power management setting, just the one.
While checking with hwinfo32, I see the vcore idle down.
Hwmonitor is another option for checking.
Or whatever you use to check it.
That should work on most cases, because that's all there is.
The bios settings, and then the windows driver and power management idle setting.
It's really down to that one power management setting under the change plans settings section.
is there any better(faster) memory ram?....or is it worth keep using this ram..I have CORSAIR DOMINATOR PLATINUM 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3 DRAM 2400MHz (CMD16GX3M4A2400C9)

Im using pc for games ..battlefield 4 and internet.
Also...which is the best bios for maximus formula V ?
Dominator Platinum 2400C9 RAM is excellent memory and can overclock well; those should be able to do 2600 or 2666 Cas 10 easily with 1.65-1.75v.

Posting in this thread, since I get no reply in the other Z77 thread.
Is it a problem to run a 7970 + 280x in crossfire on the ASUS Maximus V Extreme, when it comes to spacing and heat?
With my overclocked (normally stable) machine, from time to time I have sudden shutdowns (maybe 1 every 15-20 hours or so of usage), can happen even if the machine is idle. Need to remove power to get it to boot again, and reload OC profile. As far as I know this has started the last few months or so, can not remember it happened first half a year or more. Machine is just over 1 year old. I am NOT running latest bios. Anyone else have had this happen?
And if I need to update bios, should I go for is the latest 1903?

The machine (1,5 years old):
ASUS Maximus V Extreme 1155 (default bios, 1408 or what it is called, want to update this to newest)

Corsair Obsidian 550D Midi Tower with Corsair AF140 Quiet Edition 140mm in the side door
Sapphire Radeon HD 7970 3GB GDDR5 (will move to 2 x 970 SLI in a few days)
ASUS BC-12B1ST, BD-Reader/DVD-Writer
Windows 7 Pro 64bit
I am wondering if someone can post me a safe/stable setup for a good OC. I have run for 3,9 hgz OC the whole time, but this is not more then turbo mode normally, and since I am wondering about updating the BIOS I have to redo the whole thing, so I am wondering about a good OC to go for. I am not technical enough to know what all the settings are, and how to best reach a stable OC.
Would be super if you guys could help out here...

I need help!
I got 2 nvidia 970 Asus Strix cards and put them in the 2 top 16x pci slots (as the manual says), run them in SLI, the problem is the top card is not getting enough air (the space between the cards are just a couple millimeters) in a game like Metro Last Light, and the fan is spinning up like crazy and the exhaust is almost too hot to touch.
Can I put the second card in one of the other 8x pci slots? Does it matter?
Edit:
I think the manual is miss-leading, I think I am meant to use the 1st and 3rd pci slots, for 2way sli, NOT the 1st and 2nd slots.
Page 6-7 says use the 2 16x slots, which is the 1st and 2nd pci slots.
Page 1-26 shows usage of 1st and 3rd pci slots.
