My Laing DDC-3.2 is dead

It just died on me last night while i was sleeping. i woke up and my computer was off. i turned it back on and it ran for a few minutes then instantly shut off. i thought maybe it was the power supply because we had a nasty storm, but i noticed the red light was lit on my 790i. Do you think everything is alright?

Have you unplugged and replugged the molex ?

This is bad news indeed!! DDC3.2s are not supposed to go kaput like that.

What top is on it? Or is it stock?

So your MB is set to shutdown on over heat on the CPU?

Yes it shut right down, this pump is only a month old, ordered it from jab-tech.

Have you tapped the bottom with a screwdriver head in the hope that it restarts ? Sometimes, tapping it works and it gets going.

Do you have another PSU to test the pump with? Shut down the computer, test to see if the pump gets going.

Or even taking it apart and look at he impeller and make sure it has no obstructions.
Also are you running a pre mixed liquid or distilled water and some additive?

Yes i unplugged the molex and tapped it with a screwdriver thats the first thing i did, is this under warranty i thought if you take the top off you kill your warranty.

interesting, there ws some speculation as to using distilled water, and not a premix, that the premix added a bit of lubrication.
But who knows, the numbers are so small make an good assumption.,.

Yea, it's probally a good idea to just return it, jab-tech is great.

I also have my pumps hooked up to my kama meter controller and an alarm goes off if the pump stops,
plus it's always best to set you heat limit on your cpu lower in bios when using water so if it does stop the temp goes
up but not to much and the mobo just shuts down.

Very sorry to hear this. You will want to be extra sure it hasn't just gotten fouled with gunk (some dyes can have particles in them) or that the impeller isn't somehow getting trapped against the XSPC top (improbable, but worth checking). Do NOT run it, or even try to run it dry in testing any of this.

What was the orientation of the pump? Horizontal, vertical? That question is curiosity only.

There is also some speculation that the bottom of the pump needs to get some air to get to keep it cool, and that most people are now mounting it raised up a bit or on a this new mounting item that just came out.

I also agree to take it apart and take a good look at the impeller..

Did it have airflow underneath? (meaning was it sitting on the the two rubber bushings screwed down but with 1/8" clearance or was it sitting on a foam or gel pad?)

ps: remember that with anything (and worse with small cheap items) there is always going to be a certain amount that fail but pass quality control anyway. It happens with cars, and it happens with many items you find at your local Walmart too. So my questions are not conclusion driven but only asking for a picture of how this one was set up before it failed, nothing more than that.

If this is a Swiftech MCP355 pump, your warranty is gone. If this is an Alphacool or Danger Den label pump, or a Laing self-label pump, there is hope.

John @ Jab-Tech is a great guy and has always stepped up when it is his responsibility. I do agree with raising the pump off the deck and having a small fan blow at the bottom of the pump.

it is a swiftech MCP-355 and i am screwed. john at jab-tech just told me that they only give a 20-day warranty.

No, Jab-Tech didn't do anything wrong. Swiftech warranty is void as soon as you put a aftermarket top.

With the warranty out the window, can you disassemble it and take pics to show us what it looks. We all have good eyes to spot any issue

Is that moisture I see under the front corner? i also see what looks like a stain of some kind under the other corner. I'd check to see if there is any coolant inside the bottom of the pump.

One of the barbs was not tight on the pump when i first turned it on and it leaked a little. that's what that stain is. But i unscrewed the pump and cleaned underneath it. Good eye waterlogged. I don't think that caused it to burn out?
