Cool DavyJones Eat your Heart out..Calypso is a BEast

    Its been along time coming.
X2's with a whole new meaning.

I havnt had the urge to play with a X2 in almost two years. I almost passed this one up for a 955.(Either was free for me)im not greedy

This has to be AMD's ultimate Bonus package.
These BE's are like CrackerJacks...Suprize in every Box

@$109 + shiping + tax = $120 = Half the cost of 955. Then coupled with a new budget AM3/AM2+ Mobo it delivers. Im running a UD4P Bios F5a.. Not the Best Bios but it works %100% to unlock the newest Beast yet,,

Callisto.....AKA my Calypso is amzing for the price...i imagined a lot less bang actually

    1st Boot up to 3800mhz + @ STOCK VOLTS

3900mhz+ required a smal bump to 1.44volts Stock NBvid

    4000mhz @1.48volts NBvid= 1.2volts

    4128mhz @1.52volts NBvid= 1.3volts

Im not saying every chip will unlock and clock,,
So what even then you still can Expect 4ghz with decent cooling on 2cores.

This CPU is my B-day present... i couldnt ask 4xanything more.

I am still testing the CPU/Nb and max Ram Freqency.
I think im close to max and i could settle for 4gig 24.7 . High freqency and low volts there is still a lot of heat in the kitchen. Even though the load temp is mid 40's to High 40's. It still put a lot of stress on things.

Just now starting to up the Nb and ram. Im no where near done. A little faster NB and better timing will be nice. I think NB is where these X2's may be weak once turned into a X4. I havnt even raised up the HTT yet

Im happy with my X550x4core BEeeeast......

Thats totally sick! My 940 BE cant even do 3.9ghz with watercooling

    What cooling are you using?

That's just awesome! True bang for buck.

Now tighten up those timings and show 3GHz NB please!

Happy birthday man, enjoy your nice present!

    GigaByte MA790X UD4P AM3/AM2+ DDR2 mobo F5A Bios.

Cooling is in SiG+ two Tripples.

I may need a Better Bios for Decent Ram NB tweaking. This dosnt have the easy Ram feature that the UD5 has.

As for Ram im running patriot Viper 1200's. there 2.3 volts .. so down the road ill invest in some LV Blades

The CPU seems to max around 4150/4175mhz but this may be to my Bios . I havn't really played with the NB/HT Multis to Tweak HTT yet.

Trying to let Chip settle in while bringing the Volts up a tad. Seems to be working so far. Even with Good water set up these still put out some heat. , Higher freqency with less volts still creates WATTS TDP either way you slice it.

Hmm BRB check the NB muli for a bug in BIOS..i dint check to see if it went above 12x stable with Bios.here we go..

Dang ,, bloody happens somtimes,, to the best of us. I have 9600BE that dosnt even run @stock it only runs at 2100mhz...I sent it out, but AMD said nothing was wrong with it in 64bit..Stupid B2's

Wow i wonder what made this one a X2 if they start as a X4...I dont see nuttin wrong with the Nb clocks either. My 720 could barely do 2400nb@ 3700mhz ,, with this same Bios @ 1.3vid

I just need to see what other ram i have around ,, this patriot isnt the best for this set up . Any Lower volt sticks would be better than 2.3v

Impressive clocks for a "budget" chip. I wonder if your chip wasn't broken but made into an X2 to satisfy the launch quantity?

Wow this is the first time I've been hyped up about an AMD CPU since the mobile Athlon days!

With that in mind I just put an order in:

    It will be arriving tomorrow

This is like the CPU lottery, I'm just hoping I've got a winning ticket which has x4's all over it!

Heh, you've got a nice chip there. My 955 isn't even stable at 4.4GHz on dry ice. Core 4 flips out > 4GHz no matter how cold or how much voltage is applied.
Particle's First Rule of Online Technical Discussion:
As a thread about any computer related subject has its length approach infinity, the likelihood and inevitability of a poorly constructed AMD vs. Intel fight also exponentially increases.

    Rule 1A:
Likewise, the frequency of a car pseudoanalogy to explain a technical concept increases with thread length. This will make many people chuckle, as computer people are rarely knowledgeable about vehicular mechanics.

    Rule 2:
When confronted with a post that is contrary to what a poster likes, believes, or most often wants to be correct, the poster will pick out only minor details that are largely irrelevant in an attempt to shut out the conflicting idea. The core of the post will be left alone since it isn't easy to contradict what the person is actually saying.

    Rule 2A:
When a poster cannot properly refute a post they do not like (as described above), the poster will most likely invent fictitious counter-points and/or begin to attack the other's credibility in feeble ways that are dramatic but irrelevant. Do not underestimate this tactic, as in the online world this will sway many observers. Do not forget: Correctness is decided only by what is said last, the most loudly, or with greatest repetition.

    Rule 3:
When it comes to computer news, 70% of Internet rumors are outright fabricated, 20% are inaccurate enough to simply be discarded, and about 10% are based in reality. Grains of salt--become familiar with them.

Remember: When debating online, everyone else is ALWAYS wrong if they do not agree with you!

    Random Tip o' the Whatever
You just can't win. If your product offers feature A instead of B, people will moan how A is stupid and it didn't offer B. If your product offers B instead of A, they'll likewise complain and rant about how anyone's retarded cousin could figure out A is what the market wants.

Wow that's a heck of a chip. I also noticed something a bit weird for my perspective. To get up to 4Ghz+ you were raising the NBvid? Even though your NB speeds were not going up? So NBvid was helping hit a higher CPU clock? I have been keeping my NB volts LOWER, hoping to keep the total heat lower. I have been stuck at 3.9Ghz on my 955, perhaps I should give my NB more volts and see if I can hit the magic 4Ghz for 24/7.

My idle temps are just a bit under 40c I don't know why my chip is so warm, I use water cooling and it's lapped and still that warm. Load is mid 50's with my NB volts being lowered, so I am sure if I do raise it, then my temps will skyrocket into unstable territory.

    Well again nice chip congrats

If i put Callisto,, you be like oh.. Since i put a Nice theme to my Watercooled chip called (Calypso)(Godess of the Sea) it seems to be working.

My NBvid is 1.1 vid (STOCK) .. Its set to +.250-300,, after 4ghz or when running HIGH NB..So this is where i drew the Line for Now..the Max limit i CHOSE to set for the NBvid( 1.4vid ) the Mobo goes alot Higher

Im still in shock , Volts are nice , My 720 is hiding the Beer ,thinks i may do something wild.

Just two tripple rads and some good old distilled water. My Abiants for Room right around 22c. When the Summer Heat kicks in i usually lower the Oc anyway,, but so far i left the ACC off and tested with 26c ambiant.

4ghz is a nice X4 for 24/7. I can always Keep NB stock for less heat.

4000@1.53 looks to be a sweetspot up to 2600/2800 Nb. The NB is good up to 2800+ @ 4100mhz so will be a decent all around clock.
