Hey fellas
Youngpro came over to my place last weekend for some 3DMARK2001SE fun as HWBOT launched new GIGABYTE Super Tuner Contest based on '01. I think everyone should go check it out as 3DMARK01 got a second wind with this extremely efficient Sandy Bridge platform now and scores are pretty sweet. We all know how much fun '01 can be.
Here is the competition link (3 different GPU categories to compete in with prizes for each one): http://hwbot.org/competition/gbt_super_tuner
James and I had a great time despite murdering a couple of MSI GTX275 Lightning cards. We saw some incredible frames so its a matter of finding an older 200 series card again so we can show what this Z68X-UD4 can really do It was a really sad day Saturday as one of those cards was the magic 1375/1440Mhz card i used to clinch a record a few weeks ago with a weaker CPU. It was looking mighty nice during quick testing session friday night but disaster struck the next day.
GTX580SOC card provided a lot of fun for us as they behave differently to 200 series cards in 01 and even though Nvidia don't care and update their drivers for 3DMARK01 we still managed to get some nice benching going regardless. NVIDIA fix the drivers please, we want a return of the 500-series king in best 3D benchmark of all time!
I guess one conclusion after the weeked also was the GIGABYTE Z68 boards are also very efficient in 3DMARK01 which I'm sure a few guys were interested in finding out about
thanks Hiwa for pro work on the video, if anyone needs some work done like this hiwa's the guy & will charge decent rates!
Test system:
- GIGABYTE Z68X-UD4
- GIGABYTE GTX580SOC GPU
- EVGA GTX295
- Intel Core i5 2600K @5.85GHz
- Corsair Dominator GTX3 PSC
- G.Skill RipjawX PSC
- Kingpin Fatty pot
- Corsair AX1200
- Windows XP Pro
One thing that was pretty sweet was this GIGABYTE Z68X-UD4 not giving us a hard time subzero and also not skipping a beat for the 3 days we tortured it. One session was over 12 hours with a couple of 20 minutes break sitting frozen till we prepared new cards. Absolute trooper of a board. We also recorded a video with the way it behaves while subzero. With P67 i needed a more incremental change of settings to get to max frequency while with the new board its good as long as bclock is not pushed too high from start and temperature is right for the IMC . Sandy Bridge behaves differently subzero compared to air, it was just good that the setup didnt give us any heart aches so we can concentrate on the benching (and killing GPUs lol)
youngpro pointed out later on that the mask he had behind him looked creepily similar to our good mate Uncle Fester. DAMN, he's right. Fester looks over my shoulder when i surf the net every day eeeeek
Once we did turn to other hardware we had it was time to play GTX295 first and later GTX580. Most of it was livestreamed and we had some great audience that provided us with laughs and we entertained in return. Some of the memorable quotes for me were >
"How long does this song go for?" > after looping Wiz Khalifa for half an hour hahahaha
James putting country music as song requests started getting out of hand on livestream.
Gay hi5 after just narrowly missing the current single card GTX580 record
Here's a few hours of livestream action if you got nothing better to do today
Results, sure we got some. Fastest GTX295 score with Sandy Bridge by a long shot but we only had the card on air so it wasnt going to be a shot at the top score for this one. It would be impossible to reach 140K with 295 at these clocks anyways
Fastest single GTX580 on HWBOT , not much of a tweaking setup this one so it was just trying to somehow clinch it but bigger cpu clocks are key here unlike 200 series which tend to respond more to different tweaking. Happy to play some real 01 once i find a decent 200 series nvidia GPU unless Nvidia decide to fix up their 500 series drives a bit
