If you are well-known enough, Intel will contact you. Otherwise, good luck.

Always got mine from vendors when playing with new mobo's. For me personally though I never received a ES cpu from those vendors that could out do any retail I bought through retail channels.

Ye of little faith. I'm on the Popeye diet which consists of spinach and tobacco. Leafy greens and kicking ass has done immense things for my strength. I can now bench press 55 pounds!

You just need to get to the right person and ask in a polite way. I am sure it'll work

Now there's one of the biggest laughs I've had in a long time.

Let me tell you a short story: Back in 2006 Intel made a dualie board and used essentially a Yonah laptop chip that they called
Sossaman. Just before the boards run ended they made another chip for this based on the Merom that they called Merom MP
Now this was WAY back in 2006 with 65nm technology.
When I asked for some specifics on this chip in 2011 as I was trying to find a pair I was told that the info was "company secret"
FIVE year old tech with a process that is today outdated but still a "COMPANY SECRET"
Right, yes sir eee Bob, The release of that info would drop Intel's stock 80% in a day and their competitors would
use that knowledge to kick Intel's sales into the cellar.
I see it as about the same thinking as the US Govt refusing for 50 years to tell the truth about Roswell,NM..
OH, I forgot, the release of that Info would bring down the USA in a day also..
Now if you can't tell I'm not too happy with Intel lately.
Ran me around for 4 months and opened my eyes to the fact that they just don't want to deal openly with people.
An arrogance factor that defies belief.
    End of rant for now.

Sorry, I need to add one thing.
Can you guess WHO it was that told me that info was company secret?
    Yup, you got it right!

It's becoming like with retail and pirated copies of games: taiwanese CPU mafia will soon be easier and more pleasant to deal with than the source

Heh. That's capitalism for you. The Taiwanese CPU maffia offers better service, better prices and better product quality .

No one owes me anything and I don't get upset at hearing "Sorry I can't help you"
but what does bother me is when some tool leads me on and on and on
    That really pisses me off.
Also when you ask someone a question and you intentionally leave them an out by saying "If your not allowed to answer this just say so" but instead of
speaking to you straight they play games as if they think your an idiot and won't see through their BS.
Makes you wonder WHO these people really are.
Do they live in these sheltered little worlds where no one speaks honestly to one another?
Has the world changed that much in the 10 years since I left the business world?
It was never like this before.
My take on all this is that they think they are something special and we are all fools and to be treated as such.
Not me, not anymore. I don't give a tinker's damn what titles they have or what degrees are behind their names.
Either talk straight or I'm going to call you on it publically and the hell with the consequences.

While I can agree that misleading people is not good (although, whether that is intentional or not, I obviously do not know)...
Intel doesn't owe anyone anything. Being offered to test pre-release samples is a privilege, not a right. Same goes for having access to their classified information.
I believe that part should be pretty obvious.

I agree with you 100%. They don't owe anyone anything except honestly and courtesy and that is my issue with them.
Had the guy said "No, sorry I can't help you" up front last November I would have thanked him for his time and non issue.
Life is full of "No's" and people have to accept that. I did long ago.
This isn't about the fact that I didn't get what I was asking for.
This is about the fact that the guy lead me to beleive that he was going to help me for four months and then blew me off.
Not even a reply to my last two emails of Feb 14 and 29..Or to the one on March 6 when the NDA lifted and I told him politely what I thought of him.
