Wow looks like those new APUs take a pretty good kick in the pants to get the clocks up. Comparing those last two subs any way.

yes, IPC is really better. In R15 its not so big gain, but there is it, in some next benchmarks and practice test is again more than 10% clock to clock. And some people still dont believe about much better IPC with Kaveri (section of news in XS). Called it bulls*ts

    Here's results from my cobbled together dual Opteron 8439SE system (Tyan S2927E motherboard - 2 x "Istanbul" = 12 K10 cores).

Back a few months ago when i was putting it together (and running XP) and testing, i used nTune to bring it up past 3.05 Ghz (by upping the bus speed past the stock 200) and saw 4.9 seconds in wPrime 32M (stock runs 5.266s).

These processors are locked (both max voltage and multiplier), and the Tyan BIOS really has no options for overclocking either since its a server board, so you have to use 3rd party software to do it. i haven't run across any software that works under Win 7 yet however (perhaps someone can recommend something - and i'll give it a go). The nVidia MCP55s usually get a bit unstable above 215 or so from what i have read (and in addition you are overclocking everything) as well.

i think it is very interesting that 12 K10 cores at 2.8 Ghz are only about 4% behind the 6c/12t i7-3930K at 3.2 Ghz... kind of shows that the old K10 core were not too bad.

i'd like to build either an 8 way Istanbul system, or a 4 way socket G34 setup soon... currently researching and collecting parts. Anyone with an 4/8 way Istanbul or 4 way G34 setup run cinebench yet? Would be interesting.

The Virtual Machine won't pass the necessary information...
MCP55 was also the codename for nForce 570-590 chipsets, which do 300+ HT Reference Clock easy.

nTune had perfect support with the 500 series chipsets on Desktop but quick Google search shows it spotty for nForce Professional boards.
From the NVIDIA website, NVIDIA System Tools has droped MCP55 support but I'm pretty sure I used a version of nTune 5.x on Vista that should work with Windows 7.

i've heard of a few people setting registers via the smbus, but if you have a link to nTune 5.x that would be great. Truth be told, i kind of haven't felt the need to overclock since my old Cyrix 6x86 days. One thing i love about these multi processor setups is that i can have ultimate stability (ECC memory, server grade boards, etc.) and lots of speed by just adding more processors. i'll see if i can find nTune 5.x and give it a go.

[edit] - looks like someone got nTune working under win 7:

i did find a version of nTune that works with Win7... link to it here:

    http://www.nvidia.com/content/Driver...=us&type=Other

i ran bus speed up in increments of 1 until 215 and stopped at a speed of ~3.009 Ghz (14x215) = 7.5% overclock.

    Result is here:

    video of 10.49 run (same settings as above 215 x 14.0 = 3.01 Ghz:

Thank you, FlanK3r. Your OC's are also VERY impressive and your last few posts about the 9590 are what inspired me to try for 5.0GHz. Because...Yah! Honestly, my knees were knocking even setting the Multiplier that high. I thought for sure it wouldn't even stay in windows over 5GHz with only Air Cooling, let alone 4.8. AMD has proven me wrong, again. Best CPU I've ever owned for $150 range. I took a Barton Core XP3200+ to about 3.0GHz on Air over ten years ago, that processor blew my socks off at the time. I am now proud to say I've had a Computer with over a 5GHz clock. It isn't stable at 5GHz but I did at least get to run Cinebench. It also doesn't seem to crash doing general @ 5GHz like surfing the web or playing a flash game. I can't get it to Prime for more than a minute without the BSofD, though. Any tips for getting it stable @ 5.0 ish...I am going to be adding Cool Labs Liquid Ultra TMI when it arrives here in a few days.
