I used it in our review. It was still hot. :p
blah blah in between...Like all our CPU reviews, this chip was tested with a dedicated triple-radiator water loop (Swiftech MCP35x pump, Swiftech MCR-320 radiator and EK Supreme HF Cu water block). It kept up with this CPU, but only just. This i7 3770K ended up dialing in at the same overclock achieved on the 2600K before it – 4.8 GHz. Rather than ~1.33 V though, this was LinX stable at a mere 1.23 V loaded.
Although, to be fair, a member pointed out in our comments that this is only a 7.8% heat increase on the Kelvin scale. Heh.To put this in perspective, with this same water loop, the 2600K at 1.330 V maxed out at 56°C. As you can see, with less voltage and the same overclock, the 3770K tops out at a staggering 82°C! This is what I was implying earlier when talking about the new transistor type. A smaller process in this case does not equal lower temperatures. The hottest core measurements are 46% higher with Ivy Bridge.

Has anyone done any solid pci-e 3.0 vs 2.0 GTX680 sli benchmarks? I'll be honest thats what I'm really interested in seeing.

I suppose though since Tjmax is higher for these CPUs (105C), even up to like 85C or so load temps should be relatively fine. I'd probably use 80~85C load temps as limit personally compared to ~75C for a Sandy CPU.

Its Intel vs Intel now
Has anyone taken the time to look at socket temps with Sandybridge and Ivybridge? If SB loads at 56c under that loop, and IB at 85c, easiest way to tell if the temps are being read correctly would be to compare the socket temps.

Ivys increased temps are most likely due to higher thermal density more than anything else. I dont think leaky transistors have much to do with it.. Intel wouldnt have introduced this technology until it was fully cooked. Even with the decreased TDP, there is more heat flowing thru less contact area. The TDP decrease is proportionally less than the decrease in die area.
Meh. Ivy is a nice release. Intel could have camped on it for 9 months with no competition worries whatsoever. As a share holder, it should help out bottom line revenue somewhat due to higher margin per die. As a 2600k owner, I'm waiting for Haswell.

Question for those in the know since I'm going to be looking at getting an Ivy Bridge 3770K in a new build.
At an O/C of let's say 4.4 to 4.5Ghz on a 3770K prime 95 stable 24/7 on aftermarket air cooling:
1. What voltage should I expect to be using?
2. What temp can I expect idle/load?
3. Would you recommend DDR3 2400 RAM or something lower/higher?
Thanks for any insight!

Well if Ivybridge is 10% faster per clock, then a 4.5Ghz Ivy will match a 4.95Ghz Sandy
