Well its good to see AMD back on track. I wonder why it is so long before desktop release if the server version (SR5690) which is the same thing is out already.
its maybe 3-4 months old news....I seen it before (the same tabs)

it brings SB 800 with native SATA 6G; doubled nb-sb bandwidth (pcie x4 2.0 instead of 1.0); new power states (up to C6); native GBe NIC instead of 3rd party solutions; integrated clock generators; 2 extra USB ports, an improved fan controller and 4 extra PCIe 2.0 lanes provided by the SB
NB will be shrinked to 55nm; support higher HT speeds (up to 4000 mhz) and UVD 2.0 on non-igp platforms (890FX)

Nice, how about usb 3.0 support?

Actually yes,Thuban was originally planned for Q3 but is now moved to Q2 2010.

Quick dictionary lesson:Bulldozer : n. 1.A multi-threaded performance-oriented x86 processor core contained in the “Zambezi” processor for client PCs and “Interlagos” and “Valencia” processors for servers. Included in the “Scorpius” desktop PC platform and “Maranello,” “Adelaide,” and “San Marino” server platforms. “Bulldozer” will be a completely new, high performance architecture for the mainstream server, desktop and notebook PC markets that employs a new approach to multithreaded compute performance for achieving advanced efficiency and throughput. “Bulldozer” is designed to give AMD an exceptional CPU option for linking with GPUs in highly scalable, single-chip Accelerated Processing Unit (APU) configurations. 2.A heavy, driver-operated machine for clearing and grading land, usually having continuous treads and a broad hydraulic blade in front 3. An overbearing person; a bully.
How many USB 3.0 items are you going to buy in the next year or two?
Everything I can buy that is USB will be 3.0 if possible mainly for backup volumes which are horribly slow with 2.0 and firewire. Would be nice to be able to finally use an external drive without the speed penalty and I have been less than thrilled with esata.

It's the old chicken and the egg problem. We need some worthwhile devices to support USB 3.0 before anyone's going to really make it a standard.

esata is great as long as i use the SB750 as my esata controller and i bet that it is faster than USB3 in real world tests

Definitely a chicken & egg scenario, we need boards that actually provide connectivity before its worth it for manufacturers to produce usb3 devices...
Doesn't matter how many devices pop out if only a handful of people can fully utilize the devices.
It's really kinda negative & pesimistic to marginalize the benefits that usb3 support out of the box can have on moving the market faster towards the new higher speed std.
It doesn't matter how many devices I think I might have in one day to ten years from now if it doesn't make it into production in a timely manner.

i do like the 4x lanes for the SB, hopefully that comes with some very nice Raid0 speeds.
im also for some USB3.0, even if some of us dont use it, it can probably cost them alot of sales if someone NEEDS to have it, and there are no options.
i do love how AMD has kept board prices really low for the AM2+/AM3 platform. but where is the 300$ board with all the bells and whistles? honestly i think they sell the x90FX too cheap and too commonly. we dont all care about boards that have 4x PCIe16 slots (even though they dont all run at 16).
what i would like is a mini or microATX board, with 2 PCIe16 slots, Raid0 up to 500-600MB/s, 8 USB ports (even if some require a pci slot), optical out for audio. give me that in some non neon colors, and im happy.
I'd like know why thuban is taking so long Istanbul was released in May 09. :/
Thuban is not Istanbul though. Thuban is the revised core like Lisban ( I think, I forget what it is called ) which is the revised server core that is going in Magnycores. At least that is what i heard a while back.

True. Lisbon and Thuban are very similar but they are not the same die.
What are the chances that 890 will support core unlocking?
Email the marketing department , it's not like AMD ever really put a stop to board manufacturers allowing it really. It moved chips off the shelves after all.

QFT.
One or the other has to make a start and the 800 series chipsets do look like a big step in the right direction (not just for the usb3 and sata3, but also pretty much everything else), if it makes it to the market in time and works properly it could be the 58x0 of chipsets.

No SATA3 or USB3 on AMD's upcoming chipset? That is quite disappointing. Hopefully they will add more SATA ports, because 6 is quite limiting for some people these days.
