Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD9 goes 4WAY SLI with GTX 480

    Hey fellows,

I know quite a few results have been posted lately with UD9, so I am not going to discover anything extraordinary with my 5,6GHz i980X "champ". However, even if some results have been shown, and some forum sneak peaks have been done, I though that a more "official" preview would not hurt anybody. So I did a nice, clean preview on our website. You might be asking what the heck is so interesting about that. Yeah...I forgot to mention...I did a small "4 x GTX 480 on Gigabyte UD9" preview on our website. Now it sounds more interesting, doesn't it?

Anyway, the 4WAY SLI is not the main focus here, I am preparing a massive 1,2,3,4 GTX 480 vs 1,2,3,4 HD5870 article that will be up soon and there I will have lots of numbers about this. The most interesting part is that now 4WAY SLI can be done on other mainboards, not just EVGA 4WAY SLI and SR2. If you want to read the full story, you can use Google Translator. If not, here's some UD9 pics and some 3SLI and 4SLI numbers for you

    I want one. (ud9)

Specifically I want a limited edition ALL BLACK version. No wiring schematics no port labeling no nothing. The schematic in the manual is plenty.

Also it seems the giant heat pipe doesn't block any thing like it does on the ud7? Good news.

Edit: is that 4.8 ghz with ln2? If so isn't that really high vcore, especially for ln2?? I got 4.8 under water with much much less vcore.

Monstru's 980X isn't the best unfortunately That 4.8GHz frequency is on singlestage phase change cooling

Nice one bro Now remove those stock oven heatsinks and go for some proper all-LN2 action

Any chance of seeing what BCLK this can push? I'm really interested in picking one up when it releases, but I'll be using a 920...

2k6 does not scale that good with 4GPU's. Vantage is the most impressive with 4 and 2k3 with 3 GPU's.

In theory yes, but there is also some bios/driver "thing" needed. I am struggling to get 4Way working on R3E, but no succes untill now.

Yes, the heatpipe does not get in the way. 4.8 is done on SS, 5,6 is done on LN2.

Thank you bro. I wish I could go for some proper all-LN2 action, but unfortunately not all the VGA's are mine, so a few of them must go back. I will however hit singleGPU LN2 GTX 480 pretty soon.

I am not working on that for the moment, since I have to finish my 4Way SLI review. This was just a fast sneak preview of the boards capability of doing 4Way. That is why I didn't push to much on BCLK, CPU clocks and such. For that, there are other guys working hard here on XS with this board.

Thank you bro, but this is just a simple preview, not a review. I wanted to give you guys a sneak peak before the retail product is launched.

    Yes, max vcore is 1.9v.

Thx bearded one Is the final revision PCB even cooler then this? Could they please, oh pretty please, add PCI-E disable jumpers on this board, and an external control unit (like EVGA has)? That would make it a blast.

I will go extreme on single-card only
Yeah, 2 NF200 chips seem to be a must for 4Way SLI mobos.

    Than you miah!

Now I have a dream....with an A0 hand-picked Gulftown, that could do at least 6GHz 3D, so I could really have fun with this one and put it to work... Oh well, dream over, back to my B1 ES =))

Now, I am pretty amazed nobody noticed something very interesting. I wrote about it in my preview. Check the VRM better

PCI-E disable jumpers would be nice, but external control unit not really needed, they didn't put the buttons under the 4th card like evga did.

Mmmmm, then again, if one was to take the mem cold it could be an issue.

you can always revert back to standard jumpers unless you want to go 4WAY SLI on LN2 and RAM on LN2 as well now that would be sweet but it would be a bit silly hahaha
