BSN - GeForce GTX 480 has 480 cores, AIBs confirm

Also, we received news about targeted prices for the parts, and they look quite competitive against six-month old ATI 5800 Series: according to the benchmarks leaked some time ago, GeForce GTX 470 will beat out HD 5850 and in some cases, even HD 5870 - for the price of HD 5850 - we were told that the ballpark figure is $299-349, while GTX 480 will run between $449-499.
On the other hand, it seems they are little tensions between Theo and nVidia last days ...

I SO hope those will be the prices. That means ATi will drop their prices and then that's when we pounce on the cards

According to spokesman for an unnamed swedish retailer they would have cards available on 26th March. He said there won't be a huge supply at launch though but better than HD5800 series availability. This was mentioned like maybe 2 weeks ago tho so things might have changed.

Fermi boxes are ready... But still empty
    http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/18082/1/
Last few days the Internet was flooded with a bunch of pictures of GTX 480/470 boxes but you should know that although partners have made those, they are still empty.

I don't understand. Don't the partners actually put the GPUs on the boards? So Nvidia ships partners not the GPUs but complete boards? So what do those partners actually do?

    Let's go

HD 5970 with 5870 clocks (850/1200) and one GPU disabled (MVPUMode = 5 in registry), Catalyst AI Standard
    Core i7 920 @ 4.2 Ghz

    And now 5970 @ 850/1200 and AA 4x/AF 16x

That depends on the partner, not all have the logistics to actually make a PCB. In fact, most of them don't.

Most of them just slap a sticker on it. They handle the marketing, branding, distribution and customer/warranty support. Those are big parts to play. Of course you'll get the custom designs as well from the bigger players.

I agree with annihilat0r. If some manufacturers don't have proper fabs, they have the cards made by OEMs like Palit/Gaiward (don't which is which now, I think Palit but it does nto matter).

If NVIDIA did all the cards, they won't need any AIB at all and make whole bunch more money than shipping just GPU's. On the other hand, they have less things to care about (and we see how they care if AIB's survive or not).

i wouldnt call fermi a broken architecture personally... imo the strategy behind it is questionable, ie focus on gpgpu and massive hw performance instead of efficiency and especially power efficiency...

and no, B wont solve that... but what B can do is solve the yield and heat issues, or at least improve them... that would mean higher clocks and better performance, and less heat, which would mean a dual fermi card is feasible and nvidia can get the perf crown back...

why are they hiding all the infos in gpuz? sounds like its from the same guys who spread the previous fake gpuz shot of fermi...

    oh wow, its real then!

    but low mem clocks...
    only 800 ie 3200 effective?

when a new highend and mainstream card is launched, its always nvidia ref design and partners only put on a sticker, flash the bios, and then bundle different cables and games in a shiny box.
after a while, nvidias favorite partners are allowed to make their own cards... but they have to follow some rules to make sure the cards wont blow up etc...

low end cards are usually all designed by partners to cut as many corners as possible or to give the partners room to diversify, ie make a beefier highend card and a very cheap lowend card...
in this case partners usually buy sets from nvidia. its uncommon to buy gpus only these days, its usually sets of memory and gpus, and they are sold in bundles pretty much.
afaik ati does it the same way... so, those scores of a 480 are actually real from what i can tell, at least the gpuz shot is real... so what do those numbers look like?

Well, it's quad pumped and 384-bit rather than 256-bit on the 5870.

GTX 470 $299-$349, not going to happen

    methinks

GTX 480 US$479-US$499 (HD 5870 US$399 MSRP, prices are going up again)
GTX 470 US$379-US$399 (HD 5850 US$299 MSRP, prices are going up again)

    HD 5870 US$379 - launch price
    HD 5850 US$259 - launch price

    +1

But i would think the GTX 480 will cost a bit more, GTX 470 price seems spot on..

While, I won't say that you are wrong, because I agree that I think the top Nvidia card will be more expensive, if you noticed, there were a few of the "leaks" that suggested that there may be a 480 ultra card, and if that card does really exist, that is where I expect the super premium to be.

about to say the same thing, the gtx480 "ultra" or whatever it's called, i would expect to be in the $600-$650 range. it's too bad gfx card prices have risen again, last generation was a race to the bottom in terms of pricing...

Nothing has changed but his statement is incorrect.

    Right, seems more plausible
