The pricing of the 920 seems ridiculously sweet. The Q9400 (not the 9450, but 9400) is 270USD at it.

For the average joe the prices are good, tunned acording to the competition.

But for an enthusiast, those prices are not very atractive. I wouldn't pay more than $200 for a P2 that works stable 24/7 OC-ed @3.6GHz.

I don't want to sound argumentative solely for the sake, so I'll admit that at this point I'm not entirely certain if even 3.6 will be consistently stable for PhII at this point. So that's actually quite a liberal estimate.

But, I'd say that even for the general "overclocking" community a 3.4 ghz quad (let's just say) that will run cooly will be well received. Especially when it's compatible with existing boards that AFAIK are fairly good at this point as they've been out so long (Bios wise more specifically).

Hell, I typically only run my Q6600 at 3.2 despite it being capable quite easily of 3.6. Simply don't need the extra power for anything ATM so I'd rather have it run a bit cooler.

For truly "Xtreme!!!@! ) users however, these won't be particularly appealing other than for the sheer sake of variety. Which won't go very far. But of course, all of this is moot if you personally define enthusiasts as that top .1% of extremely high end users.

For general price comparison between Finland - central europe - US:
Q6600 in Finland: 175€
Q6600 in central europe: 152.5€
Q6600 in US: $175 (125€)

i7 920 in Finland: 269€
i7 920 in central europe: 242€
i7 920 in US: $285 (205€)

We have 10-15% higher prices than in central europe, and 30-40% higher than in US. So I'd expect P2 940BEs would go for ~220-230€ in central europe and around $260-270 in US, once there's actual availability.

The prices seem very reasonable, theres currently quite a big gap in the Intel lineup between $200 and $300 (Q9400 only) and AMD exploits this beautifully. Maybe this will get Intel to finally put their Q9x50 chips below the $300 mark, either that or they will need higher frequencies from the Q9x00 chips in order to compete on a price/performance level.

At 220-240$, 920 will really be a sweet CPU to have. Its a very competitive price for a new build, especially if you drop in the overall platform cost. Of course, intel will be forced to cut prices on their 9X50 chips to compensate (the prices for 775 cpus can only go down anyway). More competition, better prices, good for all of us...^^

I agree, it'll be cool for the modest OC-ers. Although a P2 @3.4GHz next to my i7 @4GHz(24/7) wouldn't look so cool, it'd be so fun to play with it The problem is the price, which IMO is high considering the competition.

Actually, they would make a killing with a Q6600 equivalent price, but considering the expensive build process, the starting silicon yields and their overall (estimated and known) performance point, it is both wiser and more realistic to price them in the 220-280 range, especially since it seems they are similar/better than 9X00 parts which have the same price.

Intel will cut prices on 9450 and 9550 to handle the gap, and hopefully, we are going to have a price war...^^

+1. I compare European and US prices quite often and I'd also say by seeing the finnish prices that 940BEs will go for ~260 - $270 more like 270 but then pretty soon settle for $260. And at least Germany will have some shops selling them for 220~230 EUR. If that's the case then it's very great deal I think concidering the cost of AMD motherboards too. The Q6600 will still be a problem though as long as they ship those 65nm quads but if they wouldn't exist and be sold this cheap AMD would sell a lot of these 2 CPUs.
