Are you using any switches (-forceasm, -forceSSE, -advmethods, etc)?

If you aren't, run the console/gui with -forceasm -advmethods for client 3.x, or -forceSSE -advmethods for client 4.x. Just a warning, it will push your computer harder, so if your computer is unstable, it may crash and you may need to remove -forceasm. If your computer is stable, it will help your production quite a bit.

There's no real speed difference between the console and the graphical versions. But yes you can run as many switches as you like, although some might defeat others. But I have noticed that some of the newer 10xxs are really slow. On my duallie running xp2100s @ 2325mhz, they are taking around 20 - 25 minutes a frame.

Got a hold of some 917s yesterday that were flying though, only taking around 6 minutes a frame.

My duals do those in just over 8 min a frame, at 2250MHz? If your oced to much on some of these it really slowes them down.

We seem to have to go through this lost points deal about once every six months or so. I see on the f@h forum they have been having some server problems. Lets hope that is all it is.

Are you missing a dash - in front of the argument ?
OR have you added a space between the dash and the argument ?

    try this...

    "C:\Program Files\Folding@Home\FAH4.00-Console-Pre2.exe" -advmethods -forceasm -forceSSE

Change the path to where ever you have the client. Put the quotes around the path and leave the switches outside of the quotes.

Related to slowing down, my problem of successful WU completion followed by nothing happening is back on all my folders.

    Log snippet:

    [17:31:44] Completed 250000 out of 250000 steps (100)
    [17:31:46] Writing final coordinates.
    [17:31:47] Past main M.D. loop
    [17:32:47]
    [17:32:47] Finished Work Unit:
    [17:32:47] - Reading up to 422856 from "work/wudata_01.arc": Read 422856
    [17:32:47] - Reading up to 375880 from "work/wudata_01.xtc": Read 375880
    [17:32:47] goefile size: 0
    [17:32:47] logfile size: 155672
    [17:32:47] Leaving Run
[17:32:50] - Writing 961856 bytes of core data to disk...
    [17:32:50] ... Done.
    [17:32:50] - Shutting down core
    [20:15:21] + Working...
So, the WU gets done, it writes core data to disk, shuts down the core then does nothing except reporting "+ Working..." every two or three hours.

Quitting the client and restarting it causes the fold to repeat itself. I might fold the same WU 3-4 times before I get a send and new WU.

I think it's a routing issue - if the client connection errs on it's first attempt to talk to Stanford I get this behavior. My routing stinks at times, but the client doesn't seem to ever re-try to send the WU or get another to fold.

I just added -forceasm today. Previously had -forceSSE -advmethods.

Does -forceasm really help at all? I guess I will know shortly

For Intel cpus with SSE, the flags are not neccessary.

For V3.xx clients and AMD , forceasm = SSE
    For V4 and AMD, forceasm = 3DNow
    forceSSE = SSE

If you are using V4 and AMD, it just gives you more choice and there is no need to have both flags.

To narrow it down even more, the 1022s are the ones I've been getting that take 20 - 25 minutes a frame. I'm not sure about the rest of the other 10xxs.

If you have NO issues with frequent hanging or early_unit_end, then forceSSE is fine.

Processing a WU with SSE is abt 20-30% faster than using 3DNow but there have been many reports of pc hanging with AMD procs/SSE in the past, though palomino seems to be free from this problem. I have no problems with SSE but none of my pc are o/c.

Many AMD users with this problem can however use 3DNow to finish the WU. It depends on your procs so it is a matter of speed vs stability/convenience.
