Turtles, human bones, deaf picks, abdomens, sacrificial melons - ah, another one of those damn babelfish chinese translations.

Translation from Chinese to English on Babelfish is hopeless - I think many will agree. Chinese is simply too complex a language to be directly translated [has anyone ever seen a translation where the word prostitute keeps popping out? LOL]

Anyway, I have benefited much from XS so far, and now's the time I make myself useful.

I'll translate the first post for you guys and put babelfish out of its misery.

    Here goes.

    PUSHING Transcend's DDR400 to DDR540

After seeing Kuang Ta's [some other guy] DDR 501 score benched at CL2.5, I plan to buy a Transcend DDR400 Winbond and try out my luck but no such fortune in TaiZhong [literally Middle Taiwan - actually a city]. I can't find the Winbond BH-5 DDR400 512MB made by Transcend. However I found the CH-5 version. Just when I was about to give up, I spotted the Hynix version of Transcend's DDR400 512MB.

So I thought why not give it a go, since the shopkeeper told me I can exchange it as long as there are no external/surface damage to the chip - and I still have the CH-5 to resort to if all else fails.

The result - DDR510@2.75V, DDR540@2.85V. And I can't push it further because my 2.4C just refuse to break 275 fsb [ed: sounds familiar?] Even if I upped the Vcore to 1.65V I still can't boot - so there.

I also need help to post a picture so any help is appreciated - I'll send the pictures to you.

    My testing setup:
P4 2.4C made in 4th April, but think I got lucky and landed a good one

    RAM Transcend DDR400 512MB DC Hynix [double-sided], code HY5DU56822BT-D43

    Mobo Asus P4P800 non-deluxe

    BIOS ver. 1005

All testing done with Performance Mode in BIOS set to Trubo

    Ram is SPD enabled

Memory Acceleration Mode set as enabled.

    Scores:

    DDR 510 single channel Sandra2003SP1 - 3751/3746
    DDR 510 single channel Sandra2003SP1 - 5740/5746

    DDR 540 single channel Sandra2003SP1 - 3977/3973
    DDR 540 single channel Sandra2003SP1 - 6067/6013

[ed: the scores above doesn't make sense to me - I think what he meant was the second and fourth scores are dual-channel - sounds about right to me]

    There. Job done.

Anyone who needs translation from time to time may PM me - will be glad to help out - no novels or essays please - critical information, article summaries are ok.

Thats around the same timings as the OCZ gold, and they perform nearly identical. Problem is finding Transcend memory in the US. At least you can get OCZ and their excellent warranties here.

if it clocks like the ocz 4000 you should get at least 255 with cl2 eva.

I am trying to hunt down some of this Transcend/Hynix 4.3ns stuff- Transcend does have an online store- (256MB & 512MB PC-3200 sticks are available)- but theres no info to determine what chips they're using currently.

Doing a search for the 256/512MB DDR400 part numbers seems to indicate that there's Transcend PC-3200 out there with Mosel, Samsung, Winbond, and now Hynix chips.

You guys can also try to get the ADATA DDR500 256MB sticks of which I have two. They are rated at 250MHZ with 3-4-4-8 timings at 2.5V. I can get them to run at 280 DC on the P4C800 with 2.85V. Buffered Sandra scores of 6521/6438. Tighter timings will only hold in the 220s. As explained in great detail by MS at lostcircuits, tRCD is the critical timing here, not CAS.

    Very useful doc.

Hopefully Transcend will send me a reply tomorrow, if their stuff is sporting the Hynix chips we'll have ourselves a place to buy it in the US.
