    AZN, welcome to Xtreme!

    Major already marked the pic, you may have just missed it. I circled the vr chip in red. It's the two green lines on the pins inside the circle.

    can some1 post a pic with it done.
    does it matter which direction u put the VR on? i never used a VR before. BTW VR is voltage regulator right? and this 50k resistor is adjustable right? can i get it at radio shack?

    Yeah she is...my problem is I remember her from Who's the Boss when she was about 12 and I was about 24! But I'm sure I could get over that now that I'm 43 and shes 31

    It doesn't really matter what direction you put it on but depending on which leg you have used, you will have to turn the screw the opposite way to increase/decrease the resistance. Make sure you use the middle leg and then either end leg.

    VR is a variable resistor, also known as a potentiometer, or pot. They look like the blue boxes with leads (legs) in the attached pic, and yes you can get them at Radio shack (see pic on right side - sorry it's so bad).

    y is there 3 legs if we only use 2?
    once i got them in place can i adjust it while the board is on in the bios and will the voltage go up and down as im adjusting it?

    I'm not sure why they make them that way. And yes, once n place, you can adjust while in the bios and see changes. Just be careful, though, I have heard of folks killing a board making adjustments that are too large too quickly. You need to go small adjustments at a time, and let the board stabilize between them.

    EDIT: I was wrong about the point above and doing this live through the BIOS since the ASUS board doesn't show you the vdimm. See Major Slaughter's post below

    Do you have a digital multimeter (DMM)? The best thing to do is to check your resistance with a DMM before you ever connect to the motherboard to make sure you don't accidentally fry something by hooking it up with the pot set at too little resistance/too much voltage.

    thats what i do, attach the 2 pins im going to use to the multimeter and adjust the pot so its at maximum resistance which with my pots basically means it has virtually zero effect on the voltage. then i can connect it safely and turn it up.

    my pots look like

    All I could dig up today is 100k VR

    That should work as well as a 50K "RIGHT ??"

    Are you going to get it fixed here in the states? I heard that therer is a better flexible hose that you can use. Let me know what you decide would ya.
    Oh yeah, and sorry about the mishap.

    Yeah, you can use those kind too, but they're more expensive. Mine were 85 cents at the local surplus electronics store.

    Yeah, it should work, it will just be a little harder to get the "fine tuning" right since an equal turning of the screw will have a greater effect on the resistance.

    yea a 100k will work fine, your adjustment will be very sensitive though so be careful, just alittle bit of turn might result in a big jump in voltage. Also be sure to adjust this WITHOUT your memory installed.

    Also you might want to use a 10 turn or more pot, it alows for finer adjustment.

    The 47K should work fine, but it will be very sensitve to adjustments so be careful

    No you will have to use a multimeter to adjust the resistor to the proper voltage while measureing on the leg of the mosfet AZN. The Asus bios does not report Vdimm. Once you have it set to the amout of overvolt (I did mine for .3v) then you can change the Vdimm just like before using the bios, only it will now be overvolted to whatever you set the resistor to.

    .3v overvolt

    2.55=2.85
    2.65=2.95
    2.75=3.05
    2.85=3.15

    which of the 3 pins to i use on this circle VR? i put it between the 2 grn lines off the pin 4 and 6 right? and i use that other thingy tward the top of it to measure the resistance or voltage with a meter right? where do i put my ends to test voltage? im still alittle foggy on this. i would like to have a complete pic so i know where to put stuff. i think newegg will have to send me another board cuzz mine is about to go up in flames. some1 be more clear to me cuzz im blind at the moment.

    Major, do you know what resistance your pot is set at now that you are at the right place (i.e., what resistance should folks be shooting for to get the +.3v's you got)?

    That looks like a nice little "how to." Interesting that he apparently did it with his memory in the board.

    yep start with the pot adjusted to the highest resistance.

    BrainStorm, the pot I used has one of the legs removed so I cant take an accurate resistance measurement with the other two legs since they are in parallel with the on board resister. So I don't know what value it is set at ! sorry.

    AZN if you will wait a day or so before trying the mod I'm sure we will have some pics uploaded that illustrate the mod better. Its only been a day since macci posted the mod ! hehe

    so if u take the ram out u can still check the voltage right? u just will get the annoying beeps but other then that everything will work the same? i still dont know where to put the DMM to see how high the voltage is

    Definitely start at 50k ohms and work your way towards less resistance.
