Angry Switched from water to phase and oc *dropped* 100mhz???

I have no idea wtf is happening anymore. I was on water before using a 3800+X2 and was getting 2.6ghz dual prime stable at 44C max load. Now I cant even input 2.6 into cg witout is bsoding. I isolated the problem as my cpu since my htt can go up to 295 and mem can go high too and I run it below stock for now anyways. My dual prime load @ 2.5ghz@ 1.5 volts is -7C right now. idle is about -30C on cpu core. The previous owner of the cpu said there isnt any coldbug and was able to suicide at 3.3ghz on dice. Can anyone shed any light on this because I didnt just spend a lot of money on a chilly 1 unit to get a WORSE oc. Am I somehow getting coldbugged?

using a dfi ultra-d, pc power and cooling 510 deluxe, 2 raptors raid 0, and 1900xtx.

EDIT: WOW this is ed up my 3d05 score dropped by 1k just from switching cooling method.

Holy Crap! You need 1.5V to do 2.6ghz?

You cannot compare DICE and a SS with -7 load core temp.

What's the stepping on that chip? Did you see ss of what the last owner did with the chip?

your temp went from -30 to -7...I'm no phase expert but isn't that a big drop?..
I idle at 28 on air and thats like me going 51 on Full load But The max i get is 35 which is 7 deg increase..... but a 23 degree increase in temp?

If its not a cold bug try reseating the head unit. If you've mounted the unit on a verticaly mounted mobo the head units weight maybe unseating the head a little and lowering your max clocks, turn ya system on its side so the mobo's horizontal.

your PSU maybe a little weak when you pass your present CLK's with your x1900 OC'ed at full 3d load.

resat the head, same god damn thing. My 1900xtx isnt oced right now so i doubt my psu isnt strong ehough...

yeah I saw a ss at 3.3ghz....

Coldbug doesnt make much sence to me here because I dont have any problems until I up the cpu speed past 2.5 and it never even goes unstable, it just bsods and thats it.

What I am concerneed about is that my mobo is bent a little because the condensation proofing in the back is a little big and is interfearing with my case. Could that screw up my mobo?

Another weird thing is that my computer is making a really weird noise coming from the block area and its not the block making that noise. It sounds exactly like a fan barely touching something plastic, but its definately no fan. I cant hear it from a meter away, but it still concerns me.

Something may be shorting the mobo if it's bending - though it seems unlikely.

The HTT 295 you did was that on phase or water? To check if its coldbug at 10x250 i would try to see how high you can get HTT using a lower multi. A weak drive strength and data drive might help a little if its the cold.

have you tried the burn in method?

go up from stock speed/volts and burn in for a hour then bump 1mhz.

I like to see the max speed at default vcores or near it before bumping

works for my fx60 which is currently 3130 @ 1.4vcore and still climbing, (I'm hoping for 3.2ghz @ 1.4 or more). I do have the luxury of unlocked multis

running 15x208

-7 on the core is horrible.. My little tiny guy gets -29 to -35c on the core.

might not do nearly so well with a dual core

You cpu temp is -30C under max load? I really doubt that. The 295 htt is under phase btw... I will try a different cpu in a few days to check if it is coldbug.

arisythila FX-55 is a single core producing less heat thus lower temps

Try running SP2004 then clockgenning. If that works you're bugging

My LDBHE 3800+ cold bugged around -30c. The 3dmark scores also sucked on dice. Strange...

That's basically how the cold bug works. It limits your htt, so you being fine up to say 250-260 is normal coldbug behavor. I got my old CCB1E chip up to 260x10 with dual p95 and clockgen but anything past that... pffft don't even think about it and that was with -7 temps!

I bet if you run a lower multi your max htt would probably be the same. Give it a try though, if you can get past around the same htt then you'll know it's not the coldbug holding you back.

What kind of unit are you using to hit that and yet call it "little"?
