Insulation
So I read the insulation topic and I still have a few questions, well actually I have one question, but I know there will be more. My questions will all be dealing w/ an A64 and s939 board.
Question 1:
I would like to avoid packing my socket full of grease so I was wondering if putting a sealing "wall" of grease around the edge of the socket but not all over the pins would be a good enough barrier to moisture? Is it neccessary to pack the pins, besides being messy, it looks gross, even if it'll be under inches of insulation.

Its not all about sealing moisture out, your also sealing the moisture in. Theres already air there.
For 24/7, get a bit of di-electric grease in there.

Yes, so I've heard it easily removes the grease, but it just seems like such a mess. Just lacquered all the voltage regulators on my A64 and just resealed it with some ceramique on the chip. My next question, how far around the socket should I insulate? I was thinking 2-3" of solid closed-cell foam should provide enough insulation, with the backplate getting a thinner layer so it'll fit in my case. I looked at the A64 insulating guide and they don't insulate the whole board.

One other question, are there any components that are situated around the socket that would object to a layer of sealant? Someone once mentioned a clock generator as being something I wouldn't want to cover up?
