HIS X1900 XTX IceQ - check out the cooling
The cooling looks like it is a Arctic Cooling NV 5 of some sort. I looked for more detailed reviews, trying to look for better pics, but came up empty. I think i see a heat pipe in there too.

You see, now that is what I'm talking about! Why can't AC release something like this over the accelero? I am sure this will cool at least as good as stock with virtually no noise. The only issue I could see is the extra 1/2" beyond the already long 9" of the card. Could pose a problem fitting into your case.

That card will prolly have a $100 premium...and even with that will have a hard time beating the upcoming vf-900 or something with copper heatpipe for the gpu core...

perk, if you look at the top...i think i see a copper heatpipe...also it exhausts air out the case vs the vf-900...so i think it might outperform it. the premium and lack of aftermarket availability is teh suck tho.
cantank...i dont think its longer than the card itself...just the perspective angle makes it seem so.

Yea I see a heatpipe as well. I really hope they release this design to the retail chains as I would love to use one.

oh wait, i looked at the rest of the article...states the cost is 582 for sapphire vs 596 (after rebate) for the HIS (650 before rebate)

Unlike the other X1900s here, the HSF for this card stretches the length of the card, with the fan being all the way at the end, closest to the power connection.

This may explain why the HIS cards in stock now already have rebates on them. This would be to clear out the inventory of the cards that don't have the AC HS. Damn, I like the look of that card. I was hoping there would be a silencer for the x1900 series. I put one of them on every card I buy.

Looks nice, but it won't fit most systems that have a high NB cooler :/

I have a feeling we can just buy the new VGA cooler separately soon.
Our local HIS distributor also distributes Artic Cooler heasinks. So I am sure the new VGA cooler will be available soon.

I sincerely hope so. I'm like gr8golf, I put a silencer in every card I buy, they are the best.

is the cooler that comes with the HIS cards worth leaving on or is it still better to buy an aftermarket cooler such as the Zalman Fatal1ty FS-V7??...I want the one that gives the lowest temps possible

does the HIS 1900XT card also come with that special cooler or is that only for the HIS 1900XTX cards?

In Sweden the HIS card costs just as much as any other X1900XTX (such as MSI, Sapphire and Powercolor - at least from where I buy).
The cooling seems to be somewhat better/more effective than the reference cooler (by looking at the core OC numbers) but it isn't much more silent (less than one DBA compared to Sapphire). If you actually bothered to check out the review, you would know this. I think WC seems to be the only way to get these cards any place near silent.
Quote:
|
For those who absolutely must have an X1900 XTX, their choice should be fairly clear. At $580, the Sapphire X1900 XTX is the cheapest, and also gets more-or-less the highest overclock of the three. All of these X1900s have very high power draws and noise levels, so if these areas are a concern for you, then the X1900 is not your card.
|
Quote:
|
Again, we see that the HIS X1900 XTX stands out somewhat as being slightly more quiet than the other cards, likely due to the different HSF. All of these cards are a bit noisier than most, but this isn't very surprising given their enormous power. For reference, the noise level of the room with the system off was 40.6 dbl.
|
Although more silent, not by much.
Quote:
|
Overclocking these cards was somewhat difficult, as the usual tool that we use (Powerstrip) didn't support the X1900 yet. Instead, we used a program called ATITool to get our overclocks. Unfortunately, we found that ATITool's listed speeds didn't quite indicate actual performance speeds perfectly, so the clock speeds that we were able to achieve yield slightly lower performance on the card. We were, however, able to get a good idea of the overclocking abilities of these cards with this tool. Here are the clock speeds that we achieved:
|
Evidently it allows for a higher core OC, memory seems to depend a whole lot more on having good ICs though. Unless Sapphire has some special memory binning, HIS would probably be the best choice. I actually think I'm going to get an HIS myself, if 7900GTX are as depressing as they seem to be. I'd love to see a photo under the hood though (need to make sure the power circuits have good cooling if WC-ing the core).

Wow! Now that is what a cooler should be like. I wish a fkn vendor or someone would make these for aftermarket use.

There is a difference between the standard HIS x1900 cards and the IceQ cards. From the pics I have seen, the standard cards use basically same reference design cooling as everyone else and that must be what was tested in that review.
The IceQ cards are the ones that have the Arctic Cooling silencers preinstalled and while they may not be any cooler or OC better (i think they do) - they will certainly be quieter.
Are we certain the card tested was an IceQ?

The IceQ 3 cooler is not an Arctic-Cooling product. I contacted the Marketing Manager at Arctic Cooling in Hong Kong and I have been informed that the cooler is a good copy cat of their products.

I bought the HIS X1900XT card 2 weeks ago and it does not come with the IceQ cooler (although I hear HIS will be releasing the IceQ X1900 cards soon)...the stock cooler that comes with the HIS X1900XT is very heavy though...never felt a VGA cooler that heavy before...glad I took that off and installed the Zalman Fatal1ty FS-V7 VGA cooler...much lighter and performs much better as well...here's a pic of the stock cooler

I think their imminent arrival would explain why the current XT / XTX models are priced so aggressively and have rebates on them. They have the reference design coolers like the picture in the post above. HIS will blow them out and then have their IceQ models as a quieter / cooler alternative to the other vendors.

hmmmmmm.... interesting. HIS has always had some kind of inside deal with AC. It appears AC is still supplying HIS with a special version of the ATI Silencer. To date this is the only cooler in existance like that for the 1900 series. Looks longer than the standard silencers but I imagine the cooling is better than the accelero. If you look closely at the top of the cooler you can see what looks like a heatpipe. Maybe this is a new and improved silencer?

As stated by an above post, the IceQ is not an AC product
