Going sli... a few questions

First of all I'll start with my system specs:

amd 3800+ X2 2.6 (288*9)
Corsair xms 2gb 288mhz 3-4-3-6@2.75volts
XFX 7800gtx (490/1300 one)
DFI NF4 Ultra-D
PC Power and Cooling 510watt Deluxe
two 74gig raptors in raid0
X-FI xtreme music sound card

Alright I am doing a major upgrade (stupid 3d06...lol). I want to buy a second gtx identical to the one I have, and I am also buying phase change cooling to put my cpu at like 3ghz . The biggest thing I am wondering is whether I'll need a new motherboard or not? Dfi says that my mobo doesnt support sli but I think I saw that sli can be easily enabled on the ultra'ds and runs perfectly fine. The second thing I wanna know is if my psu can ahndle another gtx added to this system... The nvidia website says 30amps on the 12v rail for sli gtx and I have 34amps, so i should be ok? Not planning to oc the vcards for 24/7 use... My psu is also supposedly sli certified... Overall, does anyone see any problems with me buying another gtx and switching cooling to chilly1 phase?

Is this guide correct? Where can I get those "bridges" they talk about in the guide? Can I just solder the two things circled in black?

that guide is right. you can solder the one's in the black circle to get sli. just so you know some of them have paste over the contacts, but if you scrape it off you'll be fine.

If it is SLi certified it will work just fine unless you wanna upgrade it too..
Get PCP&C if you can

just try it. if your system gets unstable, it may not provide enough power.
I don't know how much your PSU gives at +12V, but my system (x2 4400+, 2 6800GT's and A LOT of stuff) doesn't get enough power with 36A

your dfi-sli d might support sli. If it was one of the first board manufactured it can be modified to sli. i believe i read elsewhere that dfi had taken steps so you could no longer modify the board.

uh-oh I dont wanna buy all thios stuff and then realize that my mobo doesnt support it. Anyway I can tell without actually attempting the mod? I can't try to do it cause all my watercooling is rigged up now and it will take me like 12 hours to take it off and put it back. What kind of precautions are you talking about? If I try the mod and it can;t be modded can any permenant damage be done?

EDIT: read some stuff on that and didn't really find anything preventing the ultra to be enabled.... On the latest mobos however some epoxy is used to cover the resistorsthat need to be connected. the epoxy can be easily removed...

I was going to ask you if you had one, but I guess you dont. I'd check ebay, although it looks like there are only Asus ones for sale on there. The main difference is just the length. The other thing to keep in mind is on the DFI nf4 ultra board you'll be running one slot at x16 and the other at x2 if I remember that correctly.

theres not any apparent danger, just remove the northbrigde heatsink, ans solder, or pencil the two contacts together, takes 5 minutes
