X1800 XL help

I just got my Connect3D X1800XL from the Egg the other day. Finally got the new PCI-E system up and running.

I've got ATI Tool 25 beta 11 and the X1800 Overclocking tool that does voltages.

When changing voltages I open the OCtool, change them then close the tool and open ATI Tool.

using ATI tool with the older artifact scanner option selected it autodetects at 545 / 620 ish, stock [1.1, 1.9, 1.9] voltages.

here's my issue, the scanner NEVER actually detects any artifacts, it just hardlocks at 550 / 630. Upping the voltages to 1.15, 2, 2 does nothing at all, core hardlocks at 1.175.

Is this something I can at all fix? a different BIOS perhaps?

or is it just a bugged card or something?

thanks

Which is...?
I was looking for the latest bios for my Sapphire X1800XL, and this is all I found: http://www.techpowerup.com/bios/. This bios is from Sep 24th, it doesn't look latest to me. Or is it?
Which bios should I use to flash with? I heard that some people tried to flash their xl with xt 256mb bios? Does that work? And, first of all, wher to get this bios?

MasterMiG; I have that problem with my X850 Pro too

I think it is because the card overheats... I have not tried it with my new Zalman fan yet, will report back when I do but not right now, don't have time for a hardlock right now ;-)

I really don't know, what on earth is wrong with my card. I get artifacts in ATi tool even at stock speeds. Boosting voltage does not help. Though the program does not say that there are artifacts, it continues counting time like there is no artifacts, but yellow dots are appearing all over the 3d window. And my 3Dmark result is quite poor, too (8363). Though clocks are very high, I ran 3Dmark at 738 Core/720 Mem. The strange thing is, that artifacts fortunately appear only in ATi tool, 3Dmark and gamebenchmarks are clean. Could there be a problem with ATi tool? I tried with Beta 11 as well, but here another problem takes place. Program says that a x1800xt is detected, how? Yes, and cooling cannot be guilty for these problems, because I have a quite decent h2o cooling (EK waterblocks, two HydorL30 and two BlackIceProII. Does the fault for bad 3dmark result lie on cpu (Prescott 3.2@3.8)?

Well, I'll venture a guess here; you have a waterblock that only covers the GPU of the card?

Because the temperature reported by ATI Tool of your cards voltage regulator is 77°C, when the card is idle!

You need some airflow or another waterblock that covers the memory and most importantly the voltage regulators on your GFX card... The original fan is designed to draw cool air over the voltage regulators...

Thanks, I think that it was a quite good guess Though it seems still a little odd, I have higher clocks than most people here and my results are extremly low compared to others. I don't know, could the combination of bad cpu and too-high mosfet temp realy be the case? Because, with those clocks the result should be 10k+.
But for the time being, I am stuck with these results. Next week i will get the new x1800 series fullcover waterblock from Eddy, which cools mosfets as well, so this problem will cease to exist. Just this damn school takes so much time
