SCYTHE NINJA SCNJ-1000 - A really impressive cooler
I tried a Ninja and I must say I'm really impressed with the cooler performance
Assembled with 1 SILENX iXtrema PRO SERIES 120MM (42CFM / 11 dbs ) really silent.
The cooler mounting its quite easy.
The cooler is really HUGE, almost do not pass on the Lian Li on mouting the motherboard tray
Here is a photo:
LianLi box with SEASONIC S12-600 600W SLI SUPERSILENT - Absolut Silence
Here is a result with 1 FX-57
Idle 33º - running superpi a 3160, never passed 42ºC - amazing ..at this speed / voltage the cooper Zalman 7000 goes higher than 50º :
With the Ninja 3220Mhz benchable (3Dmark and superpi) in the FX-57 is possible, I never saw this with other air coolers I tried ..
And this without any noise - a lapot make more noise noise than this - It's the ideal cooler for 24/7 use
I strongly recomend this cooler

Glad to see you liked the Ninja. Its an superb cooler and my favorite but here BT is the fan favorite. Still, the flexibility of the ninja is second to none. I got my fan blowing up and it keeps the pwmic and chipset really cold and since hot air goes up anyway, the two fans on my case's top get rid of hot air faster this way.

130 mm fans? maybe you can fit even 140 mm?
I looked around and I opted for the Ninja so I am eagerly listening to everyone that praises it lol. I just couldn´t see how the BT would serve me any better...
Have heard you can not use those wider fans on it. Has a YS Tech mega CFM fan which I have planned to tune down with a fan controller so I could get the perfect mix. But from pictures of the Stacker I think it would do the job perfectly as the exhaust fan helping suck air through it. Guess it´s to wide to use on the 4-3 modules? And then run the Tri cool on the Ninja instead if it doesn´t fit. Or I could direct it upwards to the 80 mm blow hole but that doesn´t seem as optimal but what do I know .
I am getting the cross flow fan as well so not to worried about my chipset and ram temps
As for the Sonic Tower it´s taller but it does get beaten consistantly all the time by the ninja. And I have seen really worrying pictures on what pressure it puts on the mainboard. Seems like you need to support it by some wires or you risk it cracking the mainboard and CPU.

Yeah, same cooler i had on mind. Seems impressive so far. Nice competitive performance, price, quiet and not as heavy as some others.
I read somewhere about a new planned Scythe Ninja, made all of copper. Who knows...

Here is a simple mod to fit bigger fans to the Ninja:

I'm sure it will lower temps (even if by just a couple of degrees) but, I think one of the best parts about the Ninja is that it is relatively light (665g) compared to other high performance coolers (TTBT @ 813g and XP-90C @ 690g).
I think a part copper, part aluminum HS is the best combination. Take the Cooler Master Hyper 6 for example, first gen. was all copper, but that was phased out in exchange for design much like the current Ninja.

Yes looks like Scythe was really clever. Look at the Sonic tower and how much pressure it puts on the PCB. You need to support it by wires really since it has so much weight at the top.
So I guess using aluminium was kind of a necessity with such a high rise cooler...
But now how does this work with X2:s with removed IHS? Do you need to mod the clamping to fit well or anything? Is there a big risk it will crush the core?

2º C I really wish you are just kidding..... that is a delta 152cfm not a silent 30cfm fan...do the math, it may not help with other coolers but the ninja is another thing, also there is something called air flow...in other words, get real. Still, I know you werent really interested in an answer were you?

Can you use the Ninja with a Opteron without IHS without mods?

I installed a Ninja on Tuesday night. I got a 2c drop in temps from an XP-90 with a Delta 3-blade. While 2c doesn't sound like much the difference in the noise level because of replaceinf the Delta, 2 Antec 120's, and an Evercool 120, with 4 Yate-Loons was astonishing. You can barely hear the fans. I can now hear the stcok hs/f unit on a PIII-800 running in my file server sitting beside my desk and not the main system which used to sound like a small hovercraft with the fans all on high. It is the best air cooler I have ever tried.
oqvist I know I would not want to try mounting the Ninja on a naked chip. It took a lot of force to hook the clips. The hs is akward to hold while hooking the first two.

2C sounds like a way too small improvement from the XP90. I will think you need better air flow managament or perhaps the Artic silver needs to "cure". I would expect a 5C at least.

2C sounds like a way too small improvement from the XP90
|
You missed my point. 2c improvement while making the system almost silent is a big improvement. I did change something in the airflow that maybe did work against me but I don't think so. I had 4 fans with the XP-90, the 92 Delta, an Antec 120 in the front and also one in the back blowing in, plus an Evercool in the top blowing out. All 4 or those fans will move a bunch of air but they do it loudly, especially the Antec's. When I installed the Ninja, I switched to 4 Yate-Loon 120's. One in front blowing in, one on top blowing out. The other two are set up to blow through the Ninja into the back case fan which now blows out. This box sits inside of a compartment in an oak rolltop and it can get very hot inside that compartment. That is why I decided to set the back fan to blow out, why bring in warm air, much warmer than room ambient. While cpu temps only went down 2c, case temps have dropped 8c - 9c. And remember a Delta equiped XP-90 is not a bottom feeder (or stock) cooler. And yes, I would imagine another 1c -2c drop once the AS5 settles in, as it usually does.
Bottom line, for me, is this. I have achieved an improvement in cooling while at the same time making the system almost totally silent. I don't even have to hear a chipset fan as I run an A8n-SLI Premium, which has a heatpipe fanless chipset cooler. At the same time I have vastly improved case cooling which I needed for my migration to an SLI setup. 2 gpu's will need all the cool they can get. If I never see another 1c improvement, I am still satisfied.

I was in the same position as you. My SI-120 wasn't anything better than my XP-90, so I bought the Ninja. Hoping for lower load temps

FYI - Ripped from Ben's:
CensusPC.com has the Ninja Heatpipe CPU Cooler for Socket (478/ 775/ 754/ 939/ 940) for $38 - $5 code CPSS762 [Exp 1/31] + $6 shipping = $39 shipped.

can i have an opinion on this configuration i'm planning for my system
Front intake and Rear exhaust 120mm Yate Loon fans
Ninja mounted to the x2-3800 (non-OCed system)
Coolermaster 120mm fan attached to the right of the hs (looking from the top) in a push fashion
does this sound (no pun intended) ok from a noise/cooling perspective?
3 questions:
-Will i have enough clearance to mount the 120mm fan to the ninja overtop ocz platinum memory?
-It looks as though the HS snaps into the supplied retention bracket. is it difficult to remove afterwards?
-AS5 or AS ceramique?
thank you for helping this newbie
