Converting to & Recording HD content

I've been looking at HD recording devices [to record the HD channels I get via my cable provider so that I can watch them at a later date] and the only thing out there seems to be the ATI card which only gets HD content via its antenna. Is there any way to record the HD content from my cable service?

Also, is there a way to dynamically upconvert standard def TV content to 720p or 1080i? I know some DVD players do that with movies and I need a way to do that with recorded TV stuff [looks like crap on a big HD screen]. Oh, and any chance such tools will be eventually put into AVIVO?

Thanks all

There are DRM questions about recording HD content from cable providers that is why the ATI HD wonder doesnt do it. It could physically do it with a driver update but becuase of the questionable DRM status ATI does not have that feature enabled in drivers.

blah, figured it was something like that. DRM is getting a little out of control, why can I record something on ABC but not on ABC-HD? that's just retarded.

Hokay, well with part a down, how about upconverting reg stuff to HD like those DVD players?
