new XFX 7800 GT [new PCB]
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150124
I just saw the card pop up on the egg the other day. In further looking at it not only does it use a 4-pin molex instead of a 6-pin PCI-E power cable but it also has a totally different PCB layout, the first 7800 GT to do so as far as I know.
Has anyone had any experience with this card in terms of OCing at all? I'm curious if it fares better or worse than stock PCB design [the Gigabyte blue PCB 7800 GT use the default layout].
oh, and if this doesnt belong in Xtreme 3D Team would a mod please move, thanks.

Link works for me right now. It looks like the PCB has been chopped 10% in length with a weaker powersupply on it. I have the feeling this is will peter out quicker on max core/mem speeds than the larger PCB.

interesting. It seems unlikely that it would OC noticeably better than other Gt's on a reference PCB, b/c they all do pretty darn well as it is.

I don't think that this 7800GT will OC less than previous "revision".

I bought one, but I have to wait until I get back home for Christmas break to put it in. Next Friday can't come quickly enough, I hope the new cards are good.

Seems like a cheaper and simplified version, if anything. Before any positive results I'd stick with the "old" revision.

I wonder what's the point of changing it to a four pin connector instead. Even if you don't have a six pin connector on your power supply for these PCIe cards they all come with adapters.

it looks like they went back to a twin MOSFET design, like the GTX has, but no sink on them.. none the less, that will allow for more confident vmodding, and OCing for that matter..

Just to let some people know; my friend got this card for his new rig.
I got to play with it a little [helped him build the rig]. Config is;
Antec Sonata
Antec SmartPower 2.0 450w
X2 3800+ (stock)
Chaintech Zenith nF4 Ultra
2gb g.skill value ram (3-4-4-8)
Forceware 81.95
the only case cooling is the 120mm that came with the case, stock VGA cooler [VERY nice looking copper jobber, looks like the X1800XL sink], the card itself is hawt [no camera with me though :\]
so anyways;
484 / 1.26
FEAR, at 1280x960, everything maxxed, soft shadows, 4x / 8x
36fps avg, 7% below 25fps, 62% midrange
HDR stress test averaged 70fps
Guild Wars, 1280x1024, everything maxxed 4x/8x, in solo zones was at 60fps (v-sync was on), in city zones was 30-35fps
that's all we had time to run. overall I was rather impressed with the card. the ram seemed to go much farther than other GT's (1.2 is the normal cap, right?). Core seemed a tad low but 484mhz isn't that bad at all (hoping for 500mhz :P ). Especially for settings that had to be 24/7 stable.
EDIT :: Apparently the motherboard is using an older BIOS so it only sees the X2 3800+ as a 2ghz single-core A64, if anyone is interested I can probably get some more bechmarks come Dec 26th; might even have a X1800XL to compare it to
