Air coolers for the x1800 series - thoughts, recommendations?

I'm running into heat problems now that my OC on my x1800 xl is getting up there, and was wondering what options i have for air cooling. I noticed that some people are using the FS-V7, and was wondering if it performs better then the stock cooler on the XL, and if anyone has a comparison data by any chance.

Here's my stats so far:
ati(5/11) - 9243 (643.50/643.50)(1.200V,1.922V,1.922V)(cpu2.7ghz / ram 193mhz - opty 170) - AtiTool0.25B9 - 52°C/72.1°C

I don't see any artifacts during a 3dmark05 run at those speeds, but yesterday after playing some far cry for about 5 minutes some artifacting started to show up. and i noticed that when i alt tabbed out my temps were at 73°C.

Will i be better off with the FS-V7 over the stock cooler, or do i have any other options?

i'll assume theres an arctic cooler x1800 version out in not too long, i found the small zalman only a little better than stock cooler but with fan much quieter. once i get xp120 delivered for my cpu gonna try the 120mm zalman cooler on the x1800 and see if i can fit it on easily or not.

not got around to it, but i would dare say the zalman gpu cooler would work better if you removed the fan(if possible) and used a 80-120mm fan an inch or so below the sink as the fan really doesn't get much pressure on the fins(where most of the surface area is), and more air can only help.

my x1800xl would go to 690 or so with 1.35v and was fine temp wise with the zalman.

memory deffo did better with stock heatsink off, once you get it off you'll see the very thick thermal pads on the mem and work out why

I had an FS-V7 on my X1800XL and it dropped temps by about 10c. Full load I never hit higher than 55-60 depending on ambient temps. Fan is much quieter too.

you do realise that if even if u managed to fit the 7700, it wouldn't fit in the slot because it wuold be too big and hit the pci slots...

I just ordered ZALMAN VF700-CU, the all copper one. it's like 15-20$ cheaper then the FS-V7, which makes it easier for me to decide to modify it or not. i was thinking of triming the outside fins down (that parts that stick up and surround the 80mm fan) so they are all flush and mounting a 120mm on it. i guess i'll see what the difference is between the stock cooler and the VF700-CU, then decide if i feel like playing around with modifiying or not

macci had one on his x1800xl or xt, thing with the zalman as the fins are very easy to move so i should just be able to push some at the pci slot out the way a bit
