Some dothan thoughts

a friend is thinking of going dothan, he has a Asus p4p800 right now so will the adapter work?
he will probably buy a 1.6 OR 1.7ghz and run it on stock air or some heavy duty air so what clocks to wait for?

Yes, the adaptor will work with a P4P800 with the new bios.

He could probably expect about 2.5GHz and upwards (different for each individual cpu).

so 2.5 is average?
how will that perform in 3dmark01 and superpi, right now he has a 2.8C so how would it perform against that?
if he gets a good/bad one what to expect to oc then?

2.5ghz should beat most P4's clocked the low side of ~ 4.5ghz.
01 and pi wise, these chips perform VERY nice indeed, slightly faster than the FX's clock for clock in both
2.5ghz with a moderate FSB should see you under 30 secs to pi 1m fairly easily

Bad clocker - looking to 2.4 or under. Not seen many of these, tho Datura over on OCforums had a couple of duds. Good clocking, 2.8ghz + on air cooling

Locked from default multi down (same as A64's)
IIRC it'll work fine yea, as long as you can find a compatible bios. Check the sticky theres a list on the first page

<edit> You need the 1021.003 bios for the P4P800 </edit>

Luck of the draw. Some get better results with the 730, some the 740. Go with whichever your budget allows

What do you think of the Celeron 350?
I think it has the Dothan Core, too.
It has 1MB Cache (Pentium 2MB)

Runs at 100x13=1300mhz
Think 2500mhz upwards are possible with these?
They only cost about 75€ in Germany.
I don't think they are bad.
Can I set a lower multiplier with the Celeron-M , too?
(Note: This a Celeron with 1MB Cache, normal ones have 512kb)
My goal would be:
270x11 (near 3ghz) or something similar. (on Ice water)

what i know already:

you have to boot above 201mhz fsb to lock pci and agp.

But can you boot at any higher fsb without any problems ??
And can you just change the multi on a P4P800 SE ?

cm 350J is only one that _might_ do it.
13x multiplier, c0 stepping..

unfortunately i've given up to find this cpu here, so i ordered a 730...

I have just changed from a p4 2.8c 800fsb which i had running at 3.6 265fsb to a pm 730 1.6 533fsb whichi i am running at 2.75 230fsb.
super pi 1m on p4 system 35s on dothan 27s
3d 2001 se went up by4000
3d 2003 up by about 3000
3d 05 by about 2000

most of the time i do video editing from my sagetv pc and i have not noticed the dothan running any slower. I am not encoding just editing comercials out.
but games are awsome all my games have had a bid boost with the dothan very happy with it.

on air it will max out at 2.6 - 2.75 just need to be lucky with the chip.
I think the m730 would be a good chip to use itwill run at 200 with stock cooling/vcore no problem.
if you want to maximise your performance yuo need to get you ram timings as tight as possible running at 2-2-2-5 if you can.

water cooling is not needed the zalman flowers are easy to fit and work well.

Hope this helps
