A64 + Multitasking = ?
Is it just me or is multitasking performance really bad?
If I try to run 2 clients of any game it takes forever to get the 2nd one going, or any heavy CPU loading task for that matter will slow the system down very noticeably. On my Intel, it wasn't so, it was tons smoother and faster, even with a slower CPU (2.4c vs my new San Diego).
Am I doing something wrong?

No, its perfectly normal. Most P4 has HT which allows them to handle two threads where as P4 without HT or AMDs can only handle one thread at a time. When it comes to high load multi-tasking situation, the difference will be noticable. I don't think many ppl run two games at a time so it really isn't a big deal to them, but if you do want to go nuts doing that, you are better going with a P4 instead.

why would you want to load two games at a time, last time i checked i can only concentrate at one game at a time
unless your like my friend who opens multiple sessions of ragnarok so he can have all his accounts open at once lmao

I do recall having "boxed" multiple characters back when I played EverQuest. Although, I was doing it on an AthalonXP at first. I switched to a P4 2.8E later on and it handled it much better than the XP mainly due to the HT. But really, besides that, I don't see much point of having two or more threads capable CPU unless more applications and games are programmed to take advantage of it like the next generation game consoles.

Why not X2? It is designed for muilt-threads task, and you will still get very strong game preformance.

AMD's X2 is dual core and the performance in single threaded applications like most games today will be pretty much the same as what you would get with a single core Athlon 64 that runs at the same speed as each of the cores in the X2. The main difference is that you will be able to get that same performance with like 50% or 60% CPU load instead of 90% or 100% which gives you the ability to multitask ALOT better.
