Exclamation My OCZ VX at 70 deg centigrade!....

Just running a few tests this morning with a temp probe attached to one of the ram chips on my VX.

Running at 250 1T 2-2-2-10 3.4v

thought I'd turn my fans of and see how hot it got before any memory errors...

Well it steadily increased and after 30 mins maxed out at 70 degrees C to my suprise there were NO memory errors produced...

I left it for another 30 mins, it didn't get any hotter, but again no mem errors.

This doesn't seem right to me?... Does this mean there's no need for extra cooling on the VX (note - I have my heat spreaders removed)

You might be able to get away with that for a while, but why risk it. Throw an 80mm on them and be done with it. That's gotta be giving off some decent heat in the case too I imagine.

Thats a scary post

When overvolting ram always use a fan, it does make a diference , all it means with your units is they could probably go a lot faster when well cooled

Mine were up to 63ºc without a fan over them @ 270 mhz with 3.7v

With a fan over them I get about 32ºc

Heatspreaders on

Temps taken with aerogate II sensor

Anything that overclocked should usually have a fan over it. Usually, cooling helps increase your OC, but not always.

You shouldnt have to have 3.5v should you? Cant the memory do 250MHz with 3.3 or 3.4v at least? I know my CH-5 can do 255MHz with 3.2v and an 80mm and a pci slot blower on them, but they seem like an isolated exception..

Sorry I scared ya!....

Well with some more testing they sit at 25deg running memtest#5 overnight (thats reading directly from the surface of the chip) with my 2 x 60mm Sanyo's on them - thats pretty cool (pardon the pun, he he!)

Still can't get any extra MHZ out of them, I'm damn sure it's my FX55's mem controller, I originally had an early revision MSI Neo2 board, then bought one with the new stepping NF3 chip as advised by OPB.

I also tried 3 sets of GSKILL 4800 and couldn't break the 280Mhz barrier even with loose timings....

I guess the next step is to try a Venice or San Diego... then maybe the new ATI board...
