Cool Cinders VX Cooler...

Not trying to take away any glory from Adamantine with his wind tunnel, but I got rid of mine today and built my new cooler...

With the wind tunnel the ram chips at the far-end got warm but with this new design I've spaced each 60mm fan to blow on each half (the 4 ram chips) of the Dimm.

Now these Sanyo-Denki 60mm fans are excellent - they push 23CFM each and when you put your finger around the dimms it's freezing cold from the low->high air pressure created by these small beasts!

I've run memtest #5 for hours and the memory chips are still cool to touch and not even warm.... so is the heatsink on the ddr booster!...

Here's some pics of the cooler I've made by putting two fans together and soldering the cables up, it's nothing special but it covers 4 dimm slots (+ ddr booster) - I'll use this on any future memory that runs hot...

Talking

I know it's only two fans stuck together... but I just thought I'd show you guys as I was excited

I think it's a better cooling solution than a wind tunnel as it directly blasts air directly over all the ram chips.

I took the heatspreaders off a while ago as I'm sure the hindered performance by holding heat in, now there is more surface area of each single ram chip exposed to the air - I did actually gain a couple of mhz from doing this...

Unfortunately I've reached my max memory htt due to the mem controller on my FX-55, so I doubt it'll go any higher (will try this afternoon though!), thats why I'm waiting for a Venice or Diego...

It's a piece of foam that has sticky back plastic underneath, just to help keep the fans in position.

Hey odb, it's purely cosmetic! However I'm sure it must help a little to deaden the noise, then again it's practically silent, I use 3 x panaflo fans on the rad all at 7v. The 2 x 60mm Sanyo's make more noise than those 3 together.

Here's the cosmetic pics to show how I used the akasa foam.

Cinders.

Still wish I'd never fitted a waterblock on the Nforce3 chipset, what a waste of money, time and a little flow!... Still you live and learn...

Wonder how it'd perform in a wind tunnel setup with a fan at each end, blowing into your 120mm rear fan?

I tried to make one, but unfortunately due to the mosfets and the capacitors at the rear I couldn't fit a fan on the end of it the one at the front fitted fine.

Here's my previous one:

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...chmentid=20699

I still think blowing this way directly on to them is the best.

My dad is bringing a temp gauge round later when he pops by so I'll give you some temp measurements....

This PC is my baby!... Still wish I'd gone for phase-change now...
The best bit was building the thing!... I could build and overclock PC's all day long...
I guess you guys know the feeling?...
