Need a semi-budget Power Supply

I have an X-Connect right now which is working fine, but the thing just pisses me off to no end with its frickin huge plastic connectors, stiff cables and low rails. Also I'd like a REAL 24-pin connector because I'm thinking that nForce 4 is in my future.

Preferably I'd like the new PSU to be under $100 but thats not set in total stone, just a baseline because I know the OCZ Powerstream, PC P&Cs are great and all but they're just waay out of my budget.

Anyways, here are the PSU's I'm looking at, right now it seems to be a real toss up betweent them so I'm hoping for some opinions and suggestions, on to the list

Tagan 480w
Enermax Noisetaker 485w
Fortron Source 550w
Zippy 500w
Antec NeoPower 480w
CoolerMaster Real Power 450w
OCZ Powerstream 470w

so thats the list I've come up with of good PSU's in that price range, any ideas?

I'd go for the OCZ Powerstream. A very good PSU.

id look around the forums and see if anyone has one of those fortons 450w with adj rails..

Directron had them on sale last year for 20+shipping, and ive seen a few people rid of them lately in the classifides for cheap. there soild, and you got pots in them.

If you want looks get the modstream. But if you want performance over looks (Which the powerstream looks sexy anyway) get the Powerstream.

Fortron 500W Blue Storm. A lot of people from ocforum say its pretty good. If I didn't get my powerstream I would have probably picked that up, but I bought my OCZ from someone for 80 bucks

id go with the fortron or zippy. or if you want something on the quiet side the seasonic 430w s12. on a side note the fortron and seasonic are rated in continuous power (not sure about the zippy)

I think you'll have to go 420. I'd go for the powerstream though, adjustable rails right out of the box is convenient.

The LED's lead me to think it would not be a very good PSU. I am just assuming, but I have not heard any good nor bad things about their PSU's

Thanks guys, I'd go for the TTGI but I want the ATX 2.0 spec and I dont see that supported anywhere.

So it's down to the;

Zippy 500w
OCZ 470w

FSP 500w 'Blue Storm'
Rosewill 550w (nothing about it anywhere thus far)

The Tagan 480W has better rails (higher amp) than the OCZ Powerstream 470W.

I'd go with the Tagan, I've got one too and the rails are really rocksolid.

IIRC the PSU I linked to has the 24 pin connector. But, if you still want to consider the TTGI, check out http://www.directron.com/tt520ss.html

At $88, it's the same PSU and has the 24 pin, guaranteed.

I'm about to make the same decision as you Arkangyl. Right now I'm leaning towards the Fortron Blue Storm 500W. I've only read good things about them and own a great FSP PSU right now, I just need something with a 24pin connector. The specs on the Rosewill do look good but I have not heard one thing about them so that alone makes me shy away from them. The Zippy 500w is a little expensive, might as well get the OCZ 520W Powerstream if you're going to spend that much.

rosewills are generally made by atng (also deer and leadman). if that one is also (id say most likely) stay away from it

i have the FS blue storm it's a great PSU with "good" rails there is a pot inside that controls the 12v and 5v rails with 1 pot dont think there is an adjustment for the 3.3v
.i dont know how the 12's are split or even if they really are when testing load on any 12v point i would see a drop on all other 12v's i dont think this should happen with the ATX2.0 2x12 spec's.

has anyone else tryed anything like this on any 2x12v rail psu?

where are you measuring each 12v rail? I think you need to measure from a molex and the ATX cable to get both readings, any sort of monitoring proggy will just offer the ATX voltage.

Alexio, thanks for the praise of the Tagan, you just made this a little harder :p I really like what I've heard of the Tagan, big fan of the quiet elegance here...

Iggk, when you say "good" rails I'd like to know what that means; is good in "" just because of the question about the dual rails or beacuse they fluctuate under load? If it's the latter I might as well just get the FSP-550w and nab the extra 50w.

good because the 5 and 12 were sligtly low (4.96/11.92) but verry stable under load (voltage actualy came up about .02v)and i was able to bring them both up with the 1 pot.
the 3.3v is still allitle low (3.28 idle, 3.29 load) and i dont think there a pot for it.
and all measurements are from wires not bios or a monitor.
