What causes ram to pass memtest booted from cd but not in Windows??

I am running into a problem. I can pass memtest booting from a cd with my OCZ PC4200El Platinum's 2.9volts 2.5-3-3-8 at 285FSB no problems, but I when I run Memtest in Windows, I am having trouble getting it to pass at between 270-275 with the same voltage and timings.

Why does this happen?
Also I have the DFI 875P-T mobo and it just has passive cooling on the NB, would putting active cooling on the NB help a lot? I am assuming it would but just want to make sure.

Thanks,

Ed

i didnt know you CAN run memtest from within windows ?

Its kind of pointless anyway....if it passes in bios...then boot into windows and run prime or occt. If you pass both then you're fine. (IMHO)

Same reason Prime95 runs at higher speeds from disk(dos) than windows...windows sucks ...resources that is. As I understand since it uses x amount of memory thats usually the problem. One reason 2000 tends to bench better than XP..it uses less system memory to run.

Many times you will need to raise vdimm a bit ti get stabilty in MemTest for Windows as oposed to "normal" Memtest.
Besides, it's way better to test using Memtest for Windows. More reliable than just "booted-from-DOS" one. Once it passes e.g. 500-1000% you'll at least now that your memory is stable enough for some Prime95 action. That's how I do it... 2hrs of normal memtest, then 500% of Memtest for Windows (0 errors) and then Prime95 for at least 6hrs... Do it that way instead just depending on normal memtest alone...
