Not so good mem controller on my FX-55?...

Can't get past 254Mhz HTT on my OCZ VX at 2-2-2-10. I've tried full range of vDimm 3.2-3.6v - Also tried vCore up to 1.80v... I have swapped my month 09 motherboard for a month 11 (with 0442A2 Korea stepping)and all bios versions, but it still hits a brick wall at 254mhz in memtest #5.... arrhhhhh....

I've tried each module on their own and still can't get past 254mhz on either, in fact one locks memtest up...

think i've got some dodgy vx - most people are hitting 260/270 which is what I'm after!...

i can't break the 2940mhz on this 55 either... ideally i would have liked to maybe hit 250 x 12 - but can't get past 2940 stable with any vCore.

The FX-55 I have is 0441EPMW - so it's a week 41...

I'm thinking of buying another fx-55 to see if i get a better one, i've seen people doing well with week 43's... can anyone help?...

I'm running a Thermochill (same as black ice) 120.3 radiator with 3 vantec stealth fans running full speed... i'm using a dangerden 12v pump, seperate resevoir, dangerden tdx block and nv68 block.

my cpu temp never rises above 45 on full load (reported by mbm5)

i'm sure the cooling is more than enough for what i run.

It deffinetly seems like your getting below average performance for teh cooling....

cinders, you are just the person I am looking for. I have exactly the same hardware as yours: Neo2 0411xxx with 0442 Korea chipset, FX-55 0441 and VX RAMs. I can run up to 259 but I need 3.6v for that and it's not very stable. Can you please run MemTest86+ 1.40 and check the reported bandwidth? Mine looks very low compared to conrad's result below with a 3500+. Many thanks in advance.

Here is mine at 255:

And, here's Conrad at 258:

Can you try a NC or Winnie in the same board?

why would it be an ondie controller limit? alot of VX ram maxes out at about 250fsb. get some tccd dude and theres a good chance youll get around 270fsb, maybe even 300 if your reeeeeeeeeeeal lucky

My CPU and board are proven to run beyond 270 for sure with TCCD. my question was really about the low bandwidth I'm getting. Here are some screenie for 280 and 300 with GSkill TCCDs.

I previously had some OCZ 4200EL in this setup and could run 300HTT in memtest with no errors... However it wouldn't boot in to windows. I could bench in windows around the 270 mark....

However running the new VX at 247 (2-2-2-10) with a multi of 12 gave me 2964 (my highest stable o/c yet...) and reduced my SuperPi time from 29s to 28s, so I was quite happy with that.

This brings up the question, whats better, VX 250Mhz at 2-2-2-10 or TCCD say at 270+ at 2.5-3-3-7...?

Thanks Cinders. It looks that you and I have similar number and that means both our FX-55s have much lower bandwidth compared to conrad's 3500+ winnie.

Yes, I see what you mean....... Then again I use sandra for measuring bandwidth - i'll see what mine says tonight... See what Sandra reports your bandwidth at?...

I think week 41 ain't very good, I'm going to wait a while then get myself a new 55 and see what that's like at overclocking...

It really breaks my heart to see you guys complaining about the FX-55, as I am hoping the FX will be able to push my RAM to new heights. Have you guys taken a temperature reading of your CPU with a digital thermometer? Maybe heat is an issue on both the CPU and memory side.

I was able to do 258MHz 2-2-2-10 with two 92mm Sunon fans blowing on the memory modules and DDR Booster. I swapped those fans out for a 120mm Sanyo Denki and made a wind tunnel for the DIMM region and can now get 263MHz 2-2-2-10. My CPU is still 70C to 72C under load at 10x263MHz, so better cooling measures should improve performance even slightly.

By the way, my chip is a Newcastle.

@conrad: Sorry about the CPU, yes, it's NC.

For my case, CPU's cooling should not be an issue since it's on watercooling. But, I did not use any direct measurement using thermometer though. While for RAM, I only have 1x92mm fan blowing the RAM and it's mounted on Zalman bracket.

I hope others FX-55 owners can also see this thread and don't mind reporting back their MemTest bandwidth.

Will test later. The bandwidth is low but mine can do 30XX with normal watercooling and 29XX on air. It's not too bad, is it?
