State of GPU folding under linux?
So I have a fairly hefty army of nvidia GPUs that I could fold with, but they are all hosted in Linux systems, and they all most have the must up to date drivers.
For the last 6 months or so, they have all been generating UNSTABLE_MACHINE errors. From what I can tell, the wine wrapper requires some of the older drivers. Is this right?
Is there still no native linux gpu2 client? Kinda sad.

I forget who it was who is the GPU under linux guru... I think wine is the only thing that works though. a VM won't because of GPU support afaik

right - but even Wine won't work for me, due to the UNSTABLE_MACHINE errors. As far as I have been able to tell, this is due to the wine wrapper requiring a specific driver version.
I realy can't fathom why Pande group won't just recompile the darn thing for linux :/

Sadly that is indeed right, the newest driver folding works with is 180.60, everything newer results in UNSTABLE_MACHINE.

I have tried recompiling the wrapper from source thinking that that might fix things, but I can't even get self-compiled wrapper to work.
The wrapper is simple enough that if compiling worked, I maybe could discern the problem.
It's a bummer as I have 8 Tesla C1060's doing nothing right now. I am gonna have 32 more in a few weeks...

Would be cool if you found the problem, I've heard it's some kind of change in the CUDA part that comes with the driver which in turn makes the wrapper incompatible. Sad thing is that the very fact that Folding via wine sort of works makes a native GPU2 client very unlikely. The fact that the translation done in the wrapper produces quite a performance hit seems to be of concern here. It kinda works and that's good enough for them.
Edit: Lookie lookie, new post on Foldingforum. o_0;

Some of us have put our GPUs on GPUGrid while waiting for the new core_15/GPU3 clients. About to take #2 spot and then the #1 spot in about 90 days. You'd be welcomed help while you try and find a solution here. I checked and C1060 is on the list of compatible GPUs. Good project, runs under Boinc. Once we get the number 1 spot several will be putting GPUs back here.
Just an idea instead of letting them idle.

hmm, I don't think this helps angra, since he can't ditch his kernel and distro . Suse 11.2 is very impressive and a big leap forward for them, I'll see about working on this tonight and maybe get it running.

Maybe it doesn't help him directly, but the fact that it is working may point him to the point of error. Tried several distros myself and never got it working with something else than 180.60, so it would be _very_ interesting to know what they changed to make it work.
Btw, when is GPU3 to be released? If not this year (or at least 2010) maybe we should file a petition for a native GPU2 client?
