Temperatures are very high

hello,

I recently finished building a core i7 watercooled system. I have the following WC loop components:

-TFC 360 radiator (+ 6 GELID wing 12 fans)
-Primochill ICE coolant
-7/16" ID tubing
-Apogee GTZ block
-Swiftech MCW-NB MAX block
-Laing D5 pump
-Arctic cooling MX-3 TIM

I have my hardware (asus rampage ii extreme and i7 920 D0) at the following settings:

CPU vcore - 1.35V
CPU PLL - 1.82V
CPU VTT - 1.25V
HT - disabled
Base clock - 211MHz
CPU clock - 4431MHz

However, despite the voltages being relatively low, the CPU being a D0 revision chip, and hyper threading disabled, I get temperatures of 71C on the hottest core running intel burn test.

Have I made some sort of a mistake with my loop? How is it I have such high temperatures? I've made sure the orientation of the blocks are correct, and the TIM is spread properly.

I have had problems with the block during the build process. I basically have a few faint stains on the base (see http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=237988). Could these be affecting the performance, causing the high temps?

Thanks for any advice,

Odai.

The few stains on your block would not effect the temps. I have a similar set up to you (r2e, i7 d0 @ 4.2 w/HT on @ 1.35v) and i load around 70c. The temps seem fine to me.

Remount the block, it may not be making enough contact, You may also have to much TIM.

You are clocked @ 4.4ghz, with 1.35vcore, and your whinning about 71C?

You want colder temps? How about changing your ambients, or going on sub ambient.

There is NOTHING wrong with your system at that clock, and its probably better then 1/3rd of the people who post here.

Those temps are damn good man, nothing to worry about there. I'm @ 4.6ghz 1.42v and IBT gets me to 88c.

Its my opinion that these chips are fine generating huge temps in IBT and Linx. I never see over 65c in gaming despite what IBT can heat it to.

Seems ok for the volts+speed.

With HT disabled, that seems about right. Just so you don't think it's you. This is mine with HT on. About the same speed and volts:

Nothing to worry about with those temps... I'm running 4.2ghz, 1.29v, HT on and load in the mid 70s

Can't find the box right now, will have a look tommorow for you.

Incidentally, I made a mistake with those voltages. Turns out they were only that high because I had the PLL voltage at 1.85V. Once I had determined everything was stable, I lowered the vcore. This gave me instability, so I put it back. If had lowered the PLL first, I would have realised that it was what was causing the instability, so I would have been able to lower the vcore much further. I'll never touch the PLL setting again.

I'm at 4.5x on those same temps and voltages, testing now. Hoping to get to 4.6 before I hit intel's max of 1.375 for the vcore.

Pfffft. I had to make some major bumps in vcore when passing 215MHz bclck.

I've managed to get it stable in IBT at 219MHz @1.4V, but after 10 seconds of OCCT I get a BSOD.

Any ideas?

Also, am I pushing it with this vcore? Would 1.4-1.45V be safe for a 24/7 OC?
