Dtek Fusion V1 to Apogee XT

Right now im running a D5, PA 120.3, MCW60 on a GTX 260, and a Dtek Fusion V1 on an overclocked Q6600. I know that the new XT's are much better on the skt 1156 and 1366 but would there be much reason to upgrade on an old Q6600?

Simple answer, yes.

ANother bonus to making the upgrade is you will be able to mount it on a socket 1156 and 1366 board seeing it comes with those backplates, if you decide to upgrade later on.

Simple answer, no.

Why upgrade? Is there anything to be gained by switching blocks? Will 3-5°C drop in full load temps benefit you in any way? Is your overclock limited by temperature?

Just got to ask yourself some simple questions when deciding to upgrade.

Difficult answer: Maybe!

What will 5 degrees less gain you? If your looking for lower temps and you have a hole in your pocket and money to burn then sure why not. If your strapped for cash then no I don't see the point. If your like the rest of us and like to horde the latest shiny stuff then by all means.

Well, I guess i probably should have picked the words better. Depending on overclocks, I would say it would be worth it as it could offer a higher overclock.

Overall, the main reason I say its worth it is because all you need to upgrade is a new backplate. The mounting plate is slotted, so it is easier to adapt to different sockets. You will have backplates for 1156, 1366, and 775. Gabe should have backplates for the AMD sockets out pretty quick.

Therefore, if you find a deal later down the road and decide to upgrade, you won't have to worry about getting your CPU block to work.

Im considering it because MicroCenter is offering the XT for $59 and I asked JabTech and they said they would match the price. I do plan to go 1366 in the next year so i figured if its on sale then now may be the best time to go ahead and grab one.

If you have the nozzle upgrade for the V1 and are using the backplate, then I would suggest you hold off until you build your new i7. There is little to be gained, youll be left with a unused block, and by the time you build a new rig there may be a better block for near the same price. Of course if you are running the V1 in its original form without the backplate and nozzle upgrade then you will see a very decent improvement. It would still be cheaper to get the upgrades though, and leave your current block on the Q6600. That way you get the most out of your older rig when you build anew.

Just to muck up the decision further, there is always the pro mount mod to increase spring pressure on the Fuzion. I know Vapor did his testing a on V2 but the mount is the same for both blocks so I don't see any reason for it not to have similar effects on a V1.

This is right along with what I would think. Depending on how long it is before you upgrade, there will probably be newer shinier better performing block out by then.

I'm still running an E8500 with a GTZ. Would I like an XT? Sure, but I've got two old waterblocks collecting dust now as it is, and I just think I'm going to hold off until I decide to upgrade. I personally am having a hard time justifying the cost of an i7 setup for the performance benefit. I may end up at some point just going for an 1156 setup.

yea, i guess ill hold off until i pull the trigger on the i7 system. Yea, the Fuzion is v1 with the original hardware/mounting/nozzle etc but it will work for now.
