Yate Loons failing

Hi,

I've had some Yate Loon D12SL-12's on my radiator for about 3 years now and recently two have died. They make a wearing noise when they run and spin very slowly, it seems like the bearing has gone. They are all facing upwards.

Has anybody had this problem before and would using ball-bearing fans help in this situation ?

Yes. This is what sleeve bearing fans do, when horizontal. 3 years is pretty much right on schedule. And yes, ball bearing fans do not suffer from this.

Gentle Typhoons are some nice fans too. My 1850s are not loud at all, but the 1450s are pretty much silent.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll probably just pick whichever I can get the easiest - I'm running on one Yate Loon now and my temperatures are still fine so I don't need any super fans, just quiet / silent at 12V will suit me.

Edit: I've been looking around and I can't find anywhere over here who sell the San Aces, however I could find the Gentle Typhoons. Mind at £10-13 per fan I'm not sure I will go with them. I might just try and find some more Yates - 3 years isn't so bad.

Many people get hung up on the price, but they are worth it. I really don't think the price is that bad either.

Check out Martin's fan review: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=223391

Thanks for the link.

I think I'll sleep on it, the performance per unit noise is very good, but that price is still high. For now my single Yate will have to cope on its own.

Thanks again for the help and advice.

san aces are more expensive then GT's.

So i guess san aces are definitely out of your question.

I ran into that, your yates lasted longer than mine did horizontally. I got Sflex fans and so far, so good.
