Thermal paste with Megahalems any good?

Can't find my Arctic Silver, grrrr.
Is the thermal paste that ships with this 'sink adequate or should I hold off til I can restock the AS?

It is better for sure, but not that better you should think about it much since it will not make any substantial difference whatsoever.Much more important thing is whether the contact surface is flat for example.

You may want to read this:

All in all, the most important thing to me is the application.

Quite good, not sure if its better than AS, probably around same. Try MX3 if you want.. thats good too (currently on mine).

Edit: Reviews says that its much better than AS.

I disagree.
AS5 is one of the top ones and the difference between the top ones is so small that it is more than likely an issue with application making the difference than actual performance.

That difference is about 4 degrees. I don't think that's negligible.

I guess that by Liquid Pro they mean actuall paste not Liquid pads (they don´t work at all).

On a side note, I thought the difference between MX-2 and MX-3 was only 1 C...
And that Indigo Xtreme was better than liquid metal stuff... Hrm.

Liquid pro is still the best interface material, but hard to clean, you can observe here prints of paste even after lapping.
Indigo Extreme also is a very good tim.

I prefer PK-1, is a good performer and easy to apply.

Diferences between the various paste depends on some important factors:

- pressure of retention sistem
- TDP
- surface planeity (thickness of paste layer)
- cooling sistem used

And why would I do that when AS5 is just as good as those? Now if you think you are putting frosting on a cake and get bad results don't go blaming the TIM

You cant say AS5 is a bad TIM. It still adequate enough to do the job and some people are not concern with that 4c difference. I use both MX-3 and AS5. I usually would grab the MX-3 since it cools better and it is non conductive.

I ordered GC-Extreme from newegg to replace the original MX-2 on my Q9650 CPU and 4870 GPU last week.
4 CPU cores full load temperature dropped around 3C and GPU Full load Temperature dropped around 4C!!!~
But this TIM is a little pricey.....
I would try MX-3.

as5 isnt as good as the newer aluminum powder based stuff or liquid metal, i would not use liquid metal oe diamond stuff personally as they are destructive but IMO if u still have as5 use it but once u are out get the better stuff. i dislike as5 since its a pain to use compared to mx-2 and as5 is capacitive. dont go spewing crap that as5 is just as good as others though its not high end anymore and arctic silver even has a new paste since they know that as5 isnt in the top range anymore and so its not worth the price

im not sure on the posted chart though as tuniq and AC use the same tims and just change it with their prefix

I am sure that benchmark reviews is also spewing crap right? Maybe you, master oh wise one, have done better testings than they did... and if you are concerned about it been conductive then learn how to apply it....this aint frosting on a cake ...
